Students must bring curriculum to class to be quizzed. Students must pass all eight (8) quizzes to qualify for their next belt promotion. This requires attending a minimum of 24 classes and 3 months. Belt promotions are awarded based on proper attitude, effort, intensity, mechanics, balance, speed, power, focus, distance, and timing.

The instructor will initial the requirement when you have successfully completed it.

_____ 1st Quiz _____ Sword #2 - Start about 9 feet apart with swords sheathed, bow to each other to begin, both step forward with a right step and Nuki Uchi, uke steps up with left foot so that both feet are together and raise sword over head into Daijodan and cut down with a kiri oroshi stepping with the right foot, tori steps to left into an uke nagashi and cuts down toward uke’s wrist with kiri Oroshi, uke steps left and deflects tori’s cut and finishes by moving forward and cutting tori’s neck. *Know both the uke’s and tori’s techniques

_____ 3rd Quiz Gyokko Ryu _____ Seito – “Dart like a fish” – Uke begins in Seigan holding a kodachi, start in Hidari Ichimonji, uke attacks with chudan tsuki, evade right and left counterstrike hoshi, uke attacks with a right , evade left and right counterstrike calf, uke then attacks with left fudoken at suigetsu, evade right and grab uke’s wrist with left hand, right shakoken to uke’s face and grab uke’s right shoulder with right hand, pull uke’s left arm across his body, right sokugyakuken to gorin, drop back to right pulling uke face down.

Takagi Yoshin Ryu _____ Kyoto – “Void knock down” – Uke begins in Seiza, walk toward uke, uke steps up with right foot and attacks with right fudoken, evade left, grab uke’s right wrist with right hand and uke’s right shoulder with left hand, pull uke face down, break arm with left knee.

_____ 4th Quiz Kukishinden Ryu – Rokushakubo Kata _____ Kote Tsuke – “Applying to the forearms” – Uke begins in Seigan, start in Chudan, shuffle step forward with left foot and tsuki, switch step and do uchi, pull bo back on left side and bo for tento men uchi holding bo at end like sword, pull bo back on left, left step forward with age uchi, finish in kamae. _____ Intent to promote form _____ Testing fee paid

_____ 5th Quiz Kukishinden Ryu – Kata _____ Sashi Chigai – “Exchanging thrusts” – Uke begins in Daijodan, start in Hira Ichimonji with blade on the right side, as uke starts to cut down move circularly and thrust toward uke’s throat, uke stops to avoid the thrust, switch step and without switching hands bring blade circularly overhead and cut down diagonally from left to right toward uke’s leg, uke blocks cut to leg, repeat the above and finish by cutting uke’s leg the second time.

_____ 6th Quiz Gyokko Ryu – Geryaku no Maki _____ Ichigeki – “Single strike” – Start in Hidari Ichimonji, uke stands in Seigan holding sword, when uke raises sword in Daijodan step in with the left foot and block uke’s right with your left hand and strike kimon with a right boshiken, sokuyakuken to suigetsu.

Kukishinden Ryu Happo Bikenjutsu _____ Kasugai Dome – “Bind and stop” – Uke starts in Daijodan, start in Gedan with feet reversed, stepping with your left foot to the right using yoko aruki give uke an opening to cut down, left circular step backwards to evade the cut, kiri oroshi to uke’s kote.
