DFY- Flood Response 2018 Timeline • 18 August, 2018: Doctors for You started its response to the floods with first team of volunteers to support the relief camps and relief material collection centres.

• 19 August, 2018: The first specialist team of Doctors, paramedics and WaSH experts reached to start medical camps and WaSH awareness camps in , , Vypin areas among others of .

• 20th August, 2018: Team on the ground in Trivandrum and Initial assessment starts in followed by Alapuzha, Ernakulam and Idukki districts.

• 23rd August, 2018: Team of 21 Doctors and Medical Interns Joins Ernakulam Team for Medical Camps in the area. Team joins district administrations Health Team and provides services least reached earlier as per coordinates provided by district Administration.

• 28th August, 2018: Health Camp started in Alapuzha district. Direct Relief USA donated USD 5000 for Kerala floods. •29th August, 2018: Joint team of MSF and DFY starts assessment visit in Pathanamthitta district, followed by Pathanamthitta and Alapuzha districts. •29th August, 2018: MoU with UNICEF for partnership in Wayanad & district for Child survival intervention targeting Health, Nutrition & WASH. •First Shipment of NFI from Union Bank reach Ernakulam for distribution. •30th August, 2018: Meeting with ministry of Women & Child development govt. of Kerala for IYCF in emergency guideline release to all districts of state and partnership agreement approval granted on same day. First Truck of in-kind donation from Ample Mission reached Ernakulam and is distributed in Ernaku- lam and Alapuzha dist. •2nd September, 2018: Joint intervention of MSF(Doctors without Borders) and DFY starts in Pathanamthitta District. •3rd September, 2018: ToT starts in Wayanad as a part of Child Survival Project, supported by UNICEF. • 4th September, 2018: Doctors For You decided to mobilise 1 million doses of Doxycycline to state Govt. In view of massive outbreak of Leptospirosis in 12 out of 14 districts of Kerala. • 10th September, 2018: DFY donated the first set of 185,000 tablets of doxycycline to Karunya depot of Kerala Medical Services Corporation, .

• 14th September, 2018: DFY started a permanent counter with two doctors and support staff to support taluk hospital address the increasing patient load in North Paravur Taluk Head Quaters Hospital, North Paravur, Ernakulam.

• 15th September, 2018: MSF WaSH project in Pathanamthitta starts.

• 19th September, 2018: DFY donated the final set of 820,000 tablets of doxycycline to Karunya depot of Kerala Medical Services Corporation, .

• 24th September, 2018: DFY Health Camps in Moothukunnam covers 103 patients through health camp and 75 families through WaSH intervention.

• 27th September, 2018: Ground Level intervention and screening of children for malnutrition starts in Attappadi block, Palakkad Dist. • 1st October, 2018: Start of WaSH intervention in Ernakulam District

• 2nd October, 2018: End of WaSH intervention covering 472 wells in Ernakulam District and 30 in Respectively. Field Assessment and Stakeholder Liaising

DFY did joint field assessments with Grama Niketan and MSF Brussels DFY team was joined by Kannan G IAS for better part of our Initial Assessment Visits Initial Assessment Visits

1. DFY Team conducted joint/independent Initial Assessment in Pathanamthitta, Alapuzha, Ernakulam, , Idukki, , Wayanad and before intervening in 6 of the 8 districts. 2. DFY team was supported by Direct Relief and Iwon Charity in Early Disaster Response Intervention (In Pathanamthitta, Alapuzha and Ernakulam )and Medicines Sans Frontiers and UNICEF in Rehabilitation phase (in Wayanad, Palakkad and Ernakulam dist). Medical Camps As a part of these camps we were able to reach out to 13311 beneficiaries across 40 mobile medical camps and through our counter in North Paravur Taluk Head Quarters Hospital during our first 40 days of flood response. These activities were supported by a team of 10 doctors and team reached out beneficiaries in 25 villages across Ernakulam and Alapuzha district during the time. WaSH Intervention

Chlorination Demo and Distribution Our team organised 112 WaSH sessions covering 1150 beneficiaries, across Ernakulam, Alapuzha, Palakkad and Wayanad districts. Well Cleaning Intervention Completed Cleaning, Dewatering, Repairing and Netting of 874 wells in Ernakulam, Pathanamthitta and Wayanad Districts. Food and Non-food item kits Distribution DFY team organised distribution of Food and Non-food item kits to 1,400 families in Alapuzha and Ernakulam district. Vitamin A Supplementation Soap Distribution As a part of our Soap for Hope program, free hand wash demo and free soap was distributed among 12,000+ selected beneficiaries during the immediate aftermath of floods. Support to Govt DFY team supported Kerala Govt through periodical donations including a major donation of 10,00,000 doxycycline tablets to Kerala Government, 20,000 tablets of Vitamin A to DMO Office Wayanad and 30,000 tablets of Pregnancy Multivitamin to DMO Office, Wayanad. 20 As a part of Malnutrition screening our field team screened 28,628 and referred 7 SAM children to NRC and is now providing nutrition supplement to 210 SAM children since October 2018.
