A STUDY OF THE EARLY VEDIC AGE IN ANCIENT INDIA FASALE M.K.* Department of Histroy, Abasaheb Kakade Arts College, Bodhegaon, Shevgaon- 414 502, MS, India *Corresponding Author: Email- [email protected] Received: December 04, 2012; Accepted: December 20, 2012 Abstract- The Vedic period (or Vedic age) was a period in history during which the Vedas, the oldest scriptures of Hinduism, were composed. The time span of the period is uncertain. Philological and linguistic evidence indicates that the Rigveda, the oldest of the Vedas, was com- posed roughly between 1700 and 1100 BCE, also referred to as the early Vedic period. The end of the period is commonly estimated to have occurred about 500 BCE, and 150 BCE has been suggested as a terminus ante quem for all Vedic Sanskrit literature. Transmission of texts in the Vedic period was by oral tradition alone, and a literary tradition set in only in post-Vedic times. Despite the difficulties in dating the period, the Vedas can safely be assumed to be several thousands of years old. The associated culture, sometimes referred to as Vedic civilization, was probably centred early on in the northern and northwestern parts of the Indian subcontinent, but has now spread and constitutes the basis of contemporary Indian culture. The study is based on the author’s field work done in the villages of Andhra Pradesh in South India. The study will also look at the intersections of caste gender and disease through the worshipping process of the local deities from a dalit feminist perspective. INTRODUCTION While referring to the spread of cholera in 19th c. Asa Briggs, says “Like a man it (Cholera) travels from town to town and attacks most populous town ports and commercial spots and gradually reaches the larger cities. It is a disease of society. It hits the poor ruthlessly, it exposes defects of our public health system, it highlighted the limitations of local public administration. It also brought out the social political and moral shortcomings in society. It also resulted in rumors suspicion and social conflicts” (Asa Briggs-1961).

It is divided into three parts: Hymns to the Mystic Fire: The entire contents of a book of this name that was published by Sri Aurobindo in 1946, consisting of selected hymns to Agni with a Fore- word and extracts from the essay “The Doctrine of the Mystics”. Other Hymns to Agni: Translations of hymns to Agni that Sri Aurobindo did not include in the edition of Hymns to the Mystic Fire published during his lifetime. An appendix to this part contains his complete transla- tions of the first hymn of the Rig Veda, showing how his approach to translating the Veda changed over the years. Commentaries and Annotated Translations: Pieces from Sri Aurobindo’s manuscripts in which he commented on hymns to Agni or provided annotated translations of them. Some translations of hymns addressed to Agni are included in The Secret of the Veda, volume 15 of THE COMPLETE WORKS OF SRI AUROBINDO. That volume consists of all Sri Aurobindo’s essays on and translations of Vedic hymns that appeared first in the monthly review Arya between 1914 and 1920. His writings on the Veda that do not deal primarily with Agni and that were not published in the Arya are collected in Vedic and Philological Studies, volume 14 of THE COMPLETE WORKS.

Executive Summary M/s. USHA MARTIN LIMITED(UML) in the business of Iron ore mining and Steel making, intends to relocate its operating washing plant of capacity 240 TPH along with Iron Ore Beneficiation Plant of capacity 1.3 MTPA located at Jamshedpur to its mine site at Barajamda. Also, it is proposed to install a 0.80 MTPA capacity iron ore jigging plant to produce a sinter grade concentrate meeting the requirement of their sinter plant. Also can be used for merchant beneficiation in case of lower utilization for captive needs. UML has their own mines estimated having 100 million tones reserves, out of which 90 million tones are of low grade assaying 53-58% Iron. These reserves are estimated to meet the plant production life of 20-25 years with annual mine production of about 4 MTPA. The proposed developmental scheme envisages the following: • An annual mining of 4.0 Mtpa of Iron ore assaying 53 to 58% Fe to produce Iron Ore by existing suitable dry crushing and screening unit(s).
