V Club Mission Statement The V Club is engaged in providing the financial resources to the Vil- lanova Athletics Department in order to maximize the suc- cess of the student-athlete both in the classroom and on the playing field.

Origin of V Club Name Since the earliest of days of Villanova Athletics, the “V” has been the defining symbol of the school’s commitment to Basketball alums Bernie Schaffer, Clarence Smith and Joe Turk athletic excellence. Our teams still proudly display the V posed with prior to the Villanova Basketball Golf Outing. logo on their uniforms, thus distinguishing them from the competition. The name of the V Club was carefully chosen to reinforce the “V” connection which binds both past and present student-athletes and all supporters of Wildcat Ath- letics. Just a glimpse of the “V” brings immediate recogni- tion of Villanova University Athletics. Wildcat student- athletes compete nationwide with the image of the “V” displayed proudly on their uniforms; this badge links them to those alumni who donned the “V” in past competition. The “V” will serve as the enduring symbol forever linking student-athletes to Villanova Athletics.

Academic Support

Academic Support 2006

hirty years ago Villanova University was Tone of the leaders among NCAA Divi- sion I schools in recognizing the need for providing academic support for its student- athletes. This is a University which treasures its outstanding academic reputation and is equally proud of its student-athletes who rep- resent Villanova every year in inter-collegiate contests. Today, college athletes are expected to be involved in their sports and in training all year long. Time demands are extraordinary. The Office of Academ- ic Support helps our student-athletes to manage these athletic demands without sacrificing their academic careers. At Villanova, the Office of Academic Support reports to the Aca- demic Vice-President. It works with the Athletic Department, whose directors and coaches have always understood the primacy of academics. The entire university community is proud of the fact that all the student-athletes who stay at our University for their entire careers graduate with as fine a degree as any in the country. The Office of Academic Support works in conjunction with the many offices of academic support on campus available to all students. Moreover, with its Freshman Mentoring Program and academic tutors, the Academic Support staff oversees the academic progress of Villanova’s student-athletes throughout the year. Villanova’s Athletic Department has never lost sight of the mission Former Wildcat student-athlete Brian Westbrook is currently a member of the NFL’s of its University.
