The Beautiful Monarchs/Wanderers,
Danaus plexippus
Thank you, Janet and Rip Curtis for sending in this beautiful photo.
“We were on a bird walk on the Oxley Creek Common, a large natural wetland along Oxley Creek, known for its abundance of birdlife.
The Monarchs were on a couple of trees just before the turn-off to the lagoons”.

The magnificent Peppermint Stick Insect, Megacrania batesii
Description
Megacrania batesii, commonly known as the peppermint stick insect, is a bluish- green coloured stick insect that only lives
on the midribs of the leaves of the "Screwpine" Pandanus tectorius. If disturbed during the day, it emits a fine spray of a milky substance with an odour resembling peppermint.

BOIC GENERAL MEETING – 15 AUGUST
Our August meeting was scheduled to be held in the Canopy Room, at the ECO Centre, Griffith University, Nathan Campus. At this point in time our booking is tentative and the decision as to whether we are able to conduct it in that facility depends on a couple of factors.
Firstly, the Government’s rules on social distancing and numbers that are allowed to gather in a group. Secondly, the Grififith University has its own rules with regard to COVID 19 and we would have to abide by them as well.
A decision cannot be made at the moment and as soon as we are advised on confirmation or cancellation, we will advise ALL MEMBERS.

Cancellation of 2020 Flower Show
Unfortunately, after negotiations with Brisbane City Council, the decision has been taken to cancel the Flower Show for 2020. We were hoping to make the decision later, however, the conditions that were required to undertake the event would have been very stressful for our volunteers to maintain, so an early decision was made. Roll on 2021.
We are planning to host a virtual flower and plant show on our Facebook page at around the same time, and will be inviting you to contribute your photos from the garden, so stay tuned for that.
The Australian Native Bee Association has a Facebook page. During the past few months, they have been going LIVE on their Facebook with great Presenters from the BEE world.
Toby Smith, Tim Heard and Kit Prendergast have been some of the Presenters. It is very easy to watch and very informative. If you are on Facebook, search for the Australian Native Bee Association and you will still be able to view some of the Presentations.
Next meeting: 5 July, there will be a Live feed through ANBA’s Facebook page.
