Th e mantle is dark dark grey-brown and the wings blackish-brown. Th e greater covert wing bar seems to show one or two outer feathers having broader ,more richly buff tips ,indicating the retention of of unrnoult 怠d juvenile feathers. This , combined with the blackish mottling below ,indicate that that the bird was a frrst-year male. Craig Craig Robson ,after comp 釘台湾 a photograph of the bird with specimens of both Black Redstart Redstart and Hodgson's Redstart in The History Natural Museum ,Tring ,U. K., commented that that Hodgson's Redstart could be defmitely ruled out due to 血e darkness of the breast , the blackish blackish wings (paler and browner/greyer on Hodgson's) , the thin eye- 血19 (broader 泊 Hodgson's) ,and the call-note. According to GRIMMETT ET AL. (1 998) first-winter male Hodgson' Hodgson' s resemble females.τbe latter are paler , greyer on 出e breast than the

Robson , in litt ふTh e call 四 note given by the the Mae Taeng bird also indicated Black Redstart , since Hodgson's Redstart usually has rattling a rattling prit , and trr or tschrr when alarmed (ROBSON , 2000). Hodgson's Redstart would in in any case be less likely to occur in 百四land , being only known in Southeast as a sc 紅白 winter visitor to North Myanmar (ROBSON , 2000). τbe Black Redstart has a wide range across ,仕 om North Africa , the Ib erian Peninsula Peninsula and NW E 町 ope eastwards to Central Asia. Th e more northerly populations migrate , wintering to the Mediterranean , North Africa , the Middle East and Indian Subcontinent Subcontinent (VAURIE , 1959). is It not possible to make a defmitive identification as to the race race of the bird observed at Mae Taeng ,although the easternmost-dis 剖buted P.o. rufiventris , illus 回 ted in ROBSON (2000) ,would be the most likely race to occur in Th ailand. Th is race is is dis 回buted from about 100 Q E longitude 加 north-central ,southwards to southeastem Tibet ,wintering in eastem In dia ,Burma (V AURIE , 2000).
