CONTRAINDICATIONS FOR CHEMICAL PEELS Some medications and health conditions don’t go well together with a chemical peel. If you are using or experiencing any of the following contraindications, you need to follow the guidelines stated below. Accutane – 1year off (isotretinoin, 13-cis-retinoic acid) Retin-A, Tretinoin, Renova, Tazorac, EpiDuo, Differin, Avage, Ziana– Discontinue for 7 to 10 days prior to treatment Pregnant or Lactating – Allergy to Aspirin – (salicylic peels) Sunburned – or compromised skin; Outdoor lifestyle, Tanning Bed Users, Avid golfer or skier, sun worshiper Serious Medical Conditions – Heart condition/problems, immunity disorder, Diabetic, etc. Medications - Diabetes Type 2, Lupus, Chemo Permanent Cosmetics – wait 7 days then cover with occlusive barrier Active Cold Sores – or lesions Active Herpes Simplex, warts, history of keloid scarring Immediately post lift of facial surgery must have a doctor note Rosacea – Will need to be evaluated (moderate to severe or current flare up) Facial Waxing – requires a 72-hour waiting period On an active high B5 supplement (increases chances of scarring) High Blood Pressure Discontinue the use of Vitamin A keratolytic Drugs 7 days before & after peel Open sores or wounds in treated area Facial Cancers or facial melanoma, Preexisting inflammatory dermatoses eg: psoriasis, dermatitis, pemphigus Darker Skin – Fitzpatrick 4-6 Ehlers Danlos – overly flexible joints, skin that is translucent, elastic, and bruises easily. Blood Thinners Skin Thinners Medium or Deep Skin Resurfacing – Laser skin resurfacing procedures within 3- 12 months ONE WEEK BEFORE YOUR PEEL Discontinue any topical prescriptions or products containing Retinol or Vitamin A Avoid waxing, electrolysis, Hair removal creams, and laser hair removal treatments Avoid sun exposure (and tanning beds) Do not receive Botox or Dermal Fillers Do not have another facial or peel treatment DAY OF YOUR PEEL Do not use any alpha hydroxy acid (AHA), beta hydroxy acid (BHA) and benzoyl peroxide Stop any exfoliating products that may be dry or irritating Men- DO NOT SHAVE .
