Golden Hill Elementary School Caldecott Challenge The Caldecott Medal is awarded each year by the American Library Association for the finest picture book for children illustrated by an American. It is named after Randolph Caldecott, the finest illustrator of children’s books. He lived in the 1800’s. The award first began in 1938. You will find most of these books filed in the “Everyone” section of our library, by the author’s last name. You need to complete a brief summary form for each book read.
