Katie Edwards coordinates HCC’s English Language Center’s grant-funded program. One of her roles is working with instructors to develop curriculum that is both rigorous and dynamic. She is passionate about providing interactive instruction and always looks forward to getting into the classroom to teach! She has taught students of all ages, from elementary to adult, in multiple countries. Her Spanish language acquisition began in middle school and has grown through formal academic study as well as through informal interactions with native speakers both domestically and abroad. Meet Our Instructor Dan Puryear

Since 2000, Dan Puryear has taught English at Clarksville Middle School. He has taught both eighth grade and seventh grade English classes along with a few reading classes and social studies classes. With all this time spent teaching middle school students, it is not a surprise that he enjoys hanging out with Harry Potter and Percy Jackson fans during Kids on Campus. Meet Our Instructor David Hinton

David Hinton is HCC’s Director of Technology for the Division of Science, Engineering, and Technology. He has worked at Howard Community College for 30 years and has been a Kids on Campus instructor for 20 years. He became the first full-time faculty for HCC’s computer aided drafting and design program in 1992. He regularly works on special projects for HCC including creating a Geographical Information Systems (GIS) map of the college. Other projects include creating a Science, Technology, Engineering & Math (STEM) program for roller skating, which he sold the rights to a national roller skating chain and a Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts 3-D Modeling and & Math (STEAM) program for bowling and roller skating, which is currently Gaming Animation being used at a local skating facility. He has worked for a number of engineering firms and architects as well as a management position for a large defense contractor in northern Virginia. He has also served as a consultant for a number of small to mid-size design firms, where he taught architects and engineers Computer-Aided Drafting and Design (CADD) production techniques and a host of other software packages including Building Information Modeling (BIM) and GIS. He holds a bachelor’s degree in business information systems and associate degrees in manual drafting and computer-aided design.

Meet Our Instructor Jane Jones

Jane Jones teaches pre-calculus and applied calculus at Towson University after working many years as an engineer at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory. She has also taught pre-algebra at HCC. Her experience includes tutoring high school students and holding long-term substitute teaching positions in the math and technology departments at Mt. Hebron High School. She holds a master’s degree in secondary math education and an applied information technology graduate certificate in web development from Towson University as well as a master’s in electrical engineering and a bachelor’s in computer electrical engineering from 6th Grade Math Review Purdue University. Ms. Jones will also teach STEM Challenges (pg. 58) and the math portion of Preparation for the SAT (pg. 62).

ACADEMICALLY GIFTED AND ADVANCED OVERRIDES – Students who are in advanced classes or classes beyond their grade level may request an override to register for academic classes above their age level. Official documentation of advanced status will be required. ARRIVAL – Students should be brought to the Hickory Ridge Building no earlier than 10 minutes prior to the start of the class. Class room assignments will be posted at the Hickory Ridge Build- ing. Unsupervised students arriving early will be registered for and sent to Before Care. A fee will be charged. Students changing building locations during the day will be escorted by KOC staff. BEHAVIOR – As students enjoy their summer classes, they need to remember that college is in session and administrative offices are open for business. Meet Our Instructor Craig Murray

Craig Murray is an assistant professor of engineering at Howard Community College. Before joining HCC, Craig worked as a science communicator at Glasgow Science Centre for many years, developing and delivering their education program. He is passionate about STEM education, particularly in encouraging K-12 students to pursue a STEM career. He also worked for GE Aviation, where he volunteered as a STEM ambassador for the University of Glasgow. In addition, he developed robotics workshops for the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC). More recently, he worked as a doctoral researcher at the University of Glasgow, studying the performance of drones flying around cities in turbulent Drone Pilot 101 conditions. He holds a master’s degree in aero-mechanical engineering from the University of Strathclyde and is currently finishing his doctorate degree in aerospace engineering from the University of Glasgow.

Meet Our Instructor Hope Corrigan

Hope Corrigan, a teacher at Kids on Campus since 2010, has been sewing since she was 11 years old. Her crochet, sewing, and cross stitch projects have won numerous ribbons at the Howard County Fair. Ms. Corrigan has over four years of experience sewing, altering, and repairing dance costumes for a ballet company in Ellicott City. In addition to her passion for sewing, she is a marketing professor for the Loyola University Maryland Sellinger School of Business and Management. She holds an MBA from Loyola University Maryland, a master’s in textile chemistry from North Carolina State University, and a bachelor’s in chemistry from Hood College. Meet Our Instructor Ryan Ibrahim

Ryan Ibrahim began her career as an editorial/beauty and SFX makeup artist in 2006. Currently, she is co-owner of a freelance makeup company, Blend Makeup Artistry, which has served the MD/DC/VA areas for nearly 10 years. Somewhere along her glittery make-up trail, Ms. Ibrahim came across the crazy world of lip art. Similar to nail art, lip art is exactly what it sounds like–art, designs, or drawings painted on the lips. Ryan's work has been featured in a vast array of media outlets, from articles in Time, Teen Vogue and Seventeen magazines, to viral blog posts on Buzzfeed and Daily Mail. In 2016, she officially became a CoverGirl when she partnered with the brand on a national Halloween campaign. Most recently, she was a guest on day-time talk show, Pickler & Ben and has caught the attention of Special Effects Makeup celebrities like and . Two courses required: Child Growth and Development 45 Hours: This certification course satisfies the child devel- opment half of the MSDE requirement of 90 hours for child care teachers and directors. Gain a broad overview of major concepts, theories and research related to the social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development of the child from birth through age 12.
