HOW DID YOU FIRST GET INTERESTED IN FIELD HOCKEY? JOSIE: I first heard about field hockey from my grandmother who played in college. I was playing bas- ketball and I wasn’t really interested in any other sports. I wanted to try something new so I decided to sign up. WHAT PHYSICAL SKILLS ARE NECESSARY TO PLAY FIELD HOCKEY? JOSIE: You need strong legs, because you are bending your legs instead of your back for almost the whole game. You also need speed to get open in the field for a teammate's pass or to carry the ball up the field. SARAH: Good lungs are necessary because you do a lot of running! Also, strong arms to be able to hit the ball just right. Field Hockey is the toughest sport I’ve ever played. SOFIA: You definitely need to be able to run because the fields are very long. Most of the midfield positions require a lot of running back and forth. This is true especially on turf fields because the ball goes really fast.
