The Director of Public Health (DPH) performs a leadership role across the whole health and well- being system, aiming to drive change towards a system that focuses on prevention. We are looking for an enthusiastic and self-motivated professional project manager. The team is currently working on over £130m of schemes in a variety of sectors such as education and commercial. Together we provide advice and support to a range of service areas in relation to future and ongoing construction schemes. As a commissioner you will help set the outcomes required of the highway network and service. REGISTRATION OFFICER £22,183 - £25,481 pro rata Part Time Permanent Somerset A bit about us We have various part time opportunities for Registration Officers across Somerset. The Registration Service is one of the county council’s statutory services and is responsible for the legal registration of all births, deaths, marriages and civil partnerships in both Somerset and North Somerset. We are a customer-focused and performance driven service with a positive attitude to change. As well as serving the people of Somerset we also have offices in North Somerset and although we are 2 authorities we work as one service. We have 12 registration offices across both counties. 5 are full-time which are open every weekday, the rest are part-time. Along with the office- based work we also carry out ceremonies both weekdays and at weekends at 134 separate Approved Premises from Porlock to Frome and Clevedon to Chard. The contact we have with the public is often at emotional points in their lives and because of this we have a strong sense of responsibility for their wellbeing and ensure we treat everyone with dignity and respect, often offering them further guidance and signposting to the county council’s other services. Here's what you can expect to be doing This role may not be what you may expect, the work of a Registration Officer can be challenging but also very rewarding. You can expect an initial period of extensive training after which you will undertake a variety of registration duties from births, deaths, marriages and civil partnerships through to Welcome ceremonies, still birth registrations and death-bed weddings. We are looking to recruit 8 part-time Registration Officers across the 2 districts. Although based at one office, you will be asked to cover others countywide when the service requirement demands it. You will be expected to cover ceremonies at weekends on a rota basis, including Sundays and Bank Holidays.

SSE Outdoors is the largest provider of Outdoor Education in Somerset and enjoys a reputation for high quality and standards. The Centres offer a variety of outdoor activities and educational courses. The sites are situated in a fantastic position in Somerset with immediate access to a variety of outdoor locations. Every year, children visit our Centres and you will be key in making their days special, memorable, fun and challenging. As well as leading activities and training, each and every week you will support our Hospitality teams cleaning and preparing the Centre for groups arriving. By the end of the year, we aim to have prepared you for a career in the outdoor industry.

Here's what you can expect to be doing This post is designed to provide a challenging and interesting year within our Somerset Residential Outdoor Centres. During this year you will complete an Outdoor Practitioner Apprenticeship (level 3, which is equivalent to 2 A-levels) more information can be found at https://www.instituteforapprenticeships.org/apprenticeship-standards/outdoor-activity-instructor/. We can provide all accommodation, some meals and a wage of £4.15 (or you can choose not to live in our accommodation and earn £4.45 per hour). There will be no such thing as typical week during your year with us, but there will be a great deal of training. In the first two months we aim to train you up through our in-house training programme to deliver at least 3 of our activities (such as team building sessions, grass sledging and fossil hunts on the beach). You will then deliver these sessions regularly, and with support develop your group management skills. We will also provide at least 3 National Governing Body training courses (such as Archery Instructor Award, Lowland Walking Leader and Climbing Wall Award training and a first aid course).
