Nabenhauer Recital Room Tuesday, April 23, 1996 9:00 p.m. The Herriot String Quartet was founded in 1994 at the Easunan School of Music as a student perfonning group. Since their beginnings, the members of the quartet have been dedicated to quartet study and perfonnance of the highest standards. They have had the privilege of working with several coaches at the Easunan School, including George Taylor, James Dunham, Sylvia Rosenberg, John Graham, and Oleh Krysa. They have been heard in master classes with the Orion, Kronos, Audubon, and Angeles quartets, and have participated in quartet seminars with the Audubon String Quartet. The Herriot Quartet has been featured in many Easunan School perfonnances, and perfonned on the Easunan School "Prism Concert;" assisted with the "What Makes it Great" lecture series with guest lecturers Robert Kapliow and Robert Fink; performed with the "Music Nova Contemporary Ensemble;" and participated on a variety of chamber music performances at the Easunan School of Music. The quartet is currently involved with the Quartet Seminar at the Easunan School, under the tutelage of Sylvia Rosenberg and James Dunham. This spring the quartet is looking forward to recital perfonnances in Auburn and Ithaca, as well as in Rochester, New York. The Herriot Quartet's repertoire includes works of Haydn, Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Berg and Schnittke. For more infonnation about the Herriot String Quartet, call 607/458-7212.

Andrew Irvin, violinist and native of Missouri, made his solo debut with the Missouri Society at the age of 13. He has since participated as a soloist in master classes with the late Joseph Gingold, members of the Yenneer Quartet, Fredell Lack, and Stephen Clapp. Prior to joining the Herriot String Quartet, Mr. Irvin was first violinist with the Day String Quartet in North Carolina. He has had the privilege of working with master quartet players including members of the Mendelssohn and Juilliard string quartets. Mr. Irvin recently made his Rochester debut as leader and soloist of the newly formed Baroque Chamber Ensemble, Aire de Cour. As an orchestral musician, Mr. Irvin has performed with the Heidelberg Schlo6spiele in Heidelberg, Germany; Winston-Salem, Greensboro, Western Piedmont Triad, and Erie symphonies; and has served as concertmaster of the North Carolina School for the Arts and University of Missouri-Columbia . Mr. Irvin holds a Bachelor of Music Degree from North Carolina School for the Arts where he studied with Kevin Lawrence. He is currently a candidate for Master of Music at the Easunan School of Music where he studies with Catherine Tait. Cynthia Piotrowski, violinist, is currently a student of violin performance at the Eastman School of Music where she studies with Zvi Zeitlin. Previous teachers include Oleh Krysa of the Eastman School of Music, Emmanuel Boisvert of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, and Sharon Stanis of the Lafayette String Quartet. Ms. Piotrowski has worked extensively in the string quartet medium, having coached with Dennis Brott, Gary Koslowski, Rostislav Dubinsky, and the Lafayette String Quartet. Orchestrally, she has worked under such greats as Jeffrey Tate and Leonard Slatkin. Ms. Piotrowski is a Cecily Maroney-Tuesday Musicale scholarship winner, and has also received scholarships from the Musical Study Club of Detroit. She has participated in the Meadowmount and Music Academy of the East festivals, and was featured soloist with Southern Great Lakes Symphony. Ms. Piotrowski currently enjoys extensive free-lance work in the Rochester and Detroit areas.

Jennifer Kalika Knapp '88, violist with the Herriot String Quartet, began her career performing and teaching on Long Island, New York. While on Long Island, Ms. Knapp free-lanced extensively in the Long Island and Metropolitan New York areas with several prestigious chamber ensembles such as Ridotto Chamber Orchestra, Island Chamber Symphony, and the Tastiera String Quartet. Her orchestral experience has included posts in the North Shore Symphony and the Erie Philharmonic. She has participated in festivals in the and abroad, including Chautauqua Institution, and the Heidelberg SchloBspiele in Heidelberg, Germany. Ms. Knapp holds degrees in music from Ithaca College and the Eastman School of Music. She has studied viola with master teachers Karen Ritscher, James Dunham, Emanuel Vardi, and John Graham. Ms. Knapp is currently completing a Doctorate in Music Education and Performance at the Eastman School of Music.

Gerald MacDougall, cello, fares from Cleveland, Ohio, where much of his practical training took place. His study of cello has been influenced by Moshe Amitay of Kent State University and Bryan Dumm of the Oeveland Orchestra. While studying in the Cleveland area, Mr. MacDougall was featured as soloist with the Cleveland State University Orchestra, performing Haydn's D Major Cello Concerto. He was a member of the Cleveland State Quartet, which performed throughout the Cleveland area, as well as in Grasellenbach, Germany, as part of the Odenwald Festspiele. Mr. MacDougall enjoys free-lancing and teaching in the Rochester area, and is continuing his PhD study and teaching duties in music theory at the Eastman School of Music.
