TOPIDEAS, IMPULSE AND INNOVATIONS FOR ARCHITECTS

SPECIAL 30

URBAN BALANCE

With the residential and com- mercial building complex named "Garden Quarters", architect Sergey Skuratov is carrying out an imposing major project in the centre of that succeeds in harmoniously combining private living space with public spaces. Outwardly, the buildings present themselves as an ensem- ble of architectural units that vary in their material finish, relief- work details and structure. As a complete whole, however, the complex develops an elegant, sculptural effect. The predomi- nantly clinker brick architecture is a reminder of the industrial past of the former factory site, while at the same time displaying modern interpretations of immovability and dynamism in the design of the façade. Using “Gent Garden Quarters”, a style of clinker brick with an animated finish made by Hagemeister, Sergey Skuratov succeeds in composing an artful urban silhouette. The brick has been specially created for this project and is produced in sever- al versions, allowing the architect to generate a complete picture using just a single material.
