1. Read the passage carefully and answer the questions that follow.
Tripura is a hilly state in Northeast India, bordered on three sides by Bangladesh. It is the third smallest state in the country. It is a home to a diverse mix of tribal cultures and religious groups. Different tribes like the Halams, Jamatias, Reangs, Mogs and Mundas live here.(para-1)
The word ‘Tripura’ could have come from the name of the powerful king Tripur, or from the state’s main goddess, Tripura Sundari. Agartala, the most populous city of Tripura, is the capital. The town of Pilak has terracotta, bronze and rock-cut sculptures made between the 8th and 10th centuries. Udaipur is known for its many ancient temples and large ponds or dighis. The Tripura Sundari temple, built by Maharaja Dhanya Manikya, is the most famous temple of Tripura.(para-2)
There are several wildlife sanctuaries in Tripura. The green imperial pigeon is the state bird of Tripura. The flora consists of sal, agar, amlaki and bamboo trees. Since bamboo is strong enough to resist earthquakes and strong winds, houses, shops and granaries are made of bamboo. Bamboo is also used for making mats and jewellery. (para-3)
Bijhu and Hojagiri are famous dances of Tripura. Hojagiri is performed while standing on pots. The singers are accompanied by instruments like the sarinda, chongpreng, lebang and the bamboo flute.(para-4)
