SCHOOL SAFETY

Like all school districts throughout the nation, the Claysburg-Kimmel School District UPCOMING EVENTS strives to provide a safe and secure learning environment for all students. Administrators, faculty, and staff, with the full support of the school board, continually MARCH 2 examine processes and procedures to ensure that our students are safe. In 2015, CKHS began contracting with LifeTrack Services to provide Senior Exit Surveys for each Teacher In-Service graduating class. Follow-up surveys are conducted 18 months after graduation as (no school for students) well as five years afterward. Among the questions asked in the survey is “While a student in Claysburg-Kimmel High School, did you feel safe?” The answer to this MARCH 30 question by members of the Class of 2017 are represented in the following chart: No school for students and staff

CURRENT CKHS STUDENTS ACCRUE OVER $18 MILLION IN COLLEGE GRANTS

299 CKHS students are enrolled in the Raise.me program (www.raise.me). This program allows students to create accounts and supply their personal information on grades, activities, etc. Raise.me matches the students with a variety of colleges and universities to gather grant money for tuition.

PREPARING FOR THE PSSA TESTS: TEXT DEPENDENT ANALYSIS

Jr. High teachers recently attended a Text Dependent Analysis “refresher” workshop, led by CKHS literacy coach Emily Carper. Text Dependent Analysis plays an important role in the 7th and 8th grade PSSA tests, accounting for 25% of the students’ total score. TDA questions test a student’s ability to read and respond to complex text. To answer a TDA type question, students must read closely, provide evidence and offer thorough analysis.
