Welcome to the new wave of estate agency

Hard-working estate agent | Viewings 7 days a week | Outstanding photography | Achieving record selling prices

I have bought and sold a fair number of properties over the years. Tim Day and his team at are an absolute breath of fresh air. They offer personalised, ultra prompt, honest, no nonsense service and advice. Way beyond anything I have ever experienced before. They even helped us source tradesmen and get a better understanding of the local area. We have bought a property for use as a holiday let and Tim was full of advice and insight into the market. He even helped us source a great management company. I would 100% encourage anyone thinking of selling their property to give them a go. Absolute top marks for efficiency, care, service and engagement. Next time I sell my house I will definitely come to them first. Tanja Lister - Buyer Festival House, Snape

I’m Alice, creator of Pinch, an exciting new food venture in Suffolk I’d love to tell you about. I’m making restaurant calibre meal-kits, bringing a three course experience to your home - celebrating the Suffolk coast. These are prepared on Maple Farm, a regenerative organic family run farm in , and come beautifully packaged in a box, using the finest local produce and include simple instructions to finish at home.

It’s really exciting for me to be making food in Suffolk, my home county, after working as a chef in some of London’s most popular restaurants before the pandemic. There’s not much chance to get in touch with the farming side of food in London, but now I’m living every chef’s dream working in the middle of a farm. This is such a rich and diverse region in terms of produce. Pinch is my way of showcasing this during a time when eating together has had to adapt.

Pinch boxes include a three course menu - changing monthly - which currently come in two options: with a drink and petit fours or without. Collection is at Maple Farm, and orders can be made up until the night before collection through the website.

FRED MCMULLAN DEBUTS AT WORLD SUPERBIKES 14 year old Fred McMullan from Leiston debuts at World everyone enough for this fantastic opportunity; especially Ian Superbikes, Donington Park within the British Superbike and all at the Team of BD Racing. My appreciation also goes to Championship, HEL Junior Supersport Class. all my followers, supporters and especially my sponsors without whom this opportunity would not have been possible”. Fred arrived at Donington Park to face the top riders in his class; Ian, Team Manager described the challenge as David Photos: Gavin Elliott and Goliath as Fred was one of the youngest in his class within the British Superbike (BSB) HEL Junior Supersport. Fred saw the Donington GP Circuit for the first time in Free Practice on the Friday Morning; having only competed on the Donington National Circuit the year before. Practice went well, with Fred learning the Melbourne Loop and setting a 1:52.768 pace.

Later in the day, Fred was out in qualifying; in order to be placed on the grid for race 1, Fred had to achieve a lap time of 110% of Poll Position. With his times in free Practice, this seemed to be positive. Fred worked hard during Qualifying and this was rewarded with a lap-time of 1:51.553 (1.215 seconds faster than free practice and well within the cut off lap time of 1:54.519). This time placed Fred on the Grid at P34 out of 40 Riders; With Tom Booth Amos (currently leading the British Championship and 2nd in the World Supersport 300 Championship) taking Pole Position.

Race 1 commenced in torrential rain, with Fred on Pirelli Wets End of Race 2 for the first time. Racing against his peers from BMCRC (BEM- SEE) and the top riders in his class Fred knuckled down and persevered through the challenging conditions working his way up in the race positions to 17th. With the chequered flag out the team was ecstatic with a finishing position of 19th.

Race 2 and the weather had improved with Dry Tyres fitted. Fred started the race on P32 on the Grid. With the sun shin- ing Fred had a good start, taking a couple of places into the first corner. As the race progressed, Fred struggled to find his rhythm and came home 33rd.

Race 3, after a damp start to the day, the bike was set back to the same settings used during qualifying and Fred lined up on the Grid in P34. The race started and 40 riders tipped into the first corner. Once again, Fred persisted and as the conditions The Team changed, the race was Red Flagged on Lap 9 due to rain and Fred finished 29th.

Race 4 and the last race of the weekend. Starting at P32 on the Grid, Fred made a good start but was swamped by a pack of riders on Lap 1. Unable to find rhythm and break free, Fred was involved in a 4-way battle for 32nd; in the final laps, Fred pushed through and finished a creditable 25th. Team Manager, Ian Soilleux remarked “Considering Fred’s experience and age we are extremely proud of his, and the Team’s achievements this weekend. We shall continue working with Fred; and we look forward to our next round at Brands Hatch GP with BM- CRC (BEMSEE) on the weekend of 17th and 18th July”.

Fred commented at the end of the Weekend “I’m very pleased with the results this weekend. It still feels very surreal that I Race 3 finished in the top 20 in a British Championship. I can’t thank

SAXMUNDHAM WELCOMES YOU TO A VICTORIAN CHRISTMAS

(WITH A TWIST!)

FRIDAY, 3RD DECEMBER 2021 – 4pm – 8pm

To All Town Organisations

This year, because of the challenges faced by our Town Centre businesses, we want to focus our Christmas Event on supporting Town Centre retailers. We are having a complete rethink of the activities and layout of the event to encourage people to spend locally.

The Town also wants to offer spaces for local organisations for fundraising and fun activities for all ages. It will be a Victorian themed event, with activities taking place in the High Street, Market Place, Fromus Square and other Town Centre venues.

If you would like a stall or would like to organise an activity, please contact the Town Clerk at [email protected] or 01728 604595 no later than the end of August. We look forward to hearing from you.

NEWS FROM Primary Golf and Trampolining Event at Alde Valley Acad- It was fantastic to see so many Year 4 and 5 students enjoying emy their sport. They talked to them about the Alde Valley Acad- emy focus on co-operation, communication and the need Saxmundham Primary School went to Alde Valley Academy to work as a team. We emphasised that enjoying their sport for their first Primary Sports afternoon since the Autumn term will help them all with their mental and physical well-being. 2020. Their energy and enjoyment of all of the activities certainly showed that they had taken this on board!!

All of the 35 students took part in trampolining, pop lacrosse and mini golf. In the heat outside they worked with Alde Valley Academy Year 10 GCSE students to learn the tech- niques of putting and driving in golf. They also learned the new invasion game of pop lacrosse and how to catch, throw and scoop the ball to play a mini game. The trampolining saw the students learn how to achieve the height off the bed and to perform different shapes including the tuck, the straddle and the pike. The students who tried the seat drop were very proud of their achievements.

A big thank you to the Alde Valley Academy Year 10 Leaders and to Saxmundham Primary staff for their support for a suc- cessful and enjoyable afternoon.

This excellent afternoon was great for our well-being so thank you again to the Primary School students, the Alde Valley Academy Leaders and the staff all involved.

RAISING FUNDS FOR CHURCH The beautiful medieval hammerbeam ceiling of Sibton Church, highly decorated and with carved demi-angels is one of Suffolk’s hidden treasures. However it appears to be slowly but surely on the move. It needs to be stabilised in order to prevent further deterioration.

In order to start raising urgently needed funds, the Friends of Sibton Church (Reg. Char. No. 1063822) are holding A MIGHTY 3-DAY SALE over the August bank holiday: ‘Good quality second-hand books ‘n Bric-a-brac, clothes etc.’ The sale begins on Saturday 28th August and runs from 10.30am – 4.00pm each day, finishing on Monday 30th August at 4.00pm.

Refreshments are always available; free admission; ample parking on the Glebe meadow @ IP17 2LX. All are very welcome. The 15th century hammerbeam roof and other features that include stonework from nearby Sibton abbey, and sensitive re-creation in the Victorian era of a chancel in the early English style, make the church building well worth the visit.

Paperback, Published: Lightning Books (September 2021) ISBN: 9781785632815 www.eye-books.com/books/the-other-side-of-the-whale-road

When his mum burns down their house on the Whitehorse estate, sixteen-year-old Joss is sent to live in a sleepy Suffolk village.

The place is steeped in history, as Joss learns when a bike accident pitches him back more than 1,000 years to an Anglo-Saxon village. That history also tells him his new friends are in mortal peril from bloodthirsty invaders. Can he warn their ruler, King Edmund, in time? And will he ever get home?

‘The Vikings are better armed than we are. They have long, heavy axes that can take a man’s head from his shoulder. I know this because I see it happen.’‍

From the author My childhood home was , which is where I grew up and went to school, and my family still live there so when I talk about ‘going home’, it is Felixstowe I mean. I worked for ten years as a Health Visitor in Felixstowe, supporting many families with new babies and small children, and since 2015 I have been part of the health visiting team in Saxmundham, covering an area from Framlingham to Leiston. It’s a career I’ve loved, and it’s been a pleasure and privilege to be involved in the lives of new parents and their children.

However, it has always been my ambition to write a novel for children - I did a degree in English before becoming a nurse, and writing is my first love.

So I’m very excited that THE OTHER SIDE OF THE WHALE ROAD is going to be published by Lightning Books in September. The book, which is set locally and is rooted in the landscape of Suffolk, uses the medieval legend of King Edmund (who gave his name to ) to tell a coming of age story suitable for readers of around 14.
