A He “Extending lping Hand T o Our Need y Yo uth An d F am ilie s”

UPPER MARLBORO, MD

Dear Treasured Friends of The Charity Carrousel,

I can’t believe it has been 5 years since we held our first Charity Carrousel Golf Tournament! It was on the recommendation of a friend. At that time, my thought was, why not! We’ve grown from a small tournament into a signature event with triple the number of players, an alliance with the Southern Junior Golf Association (SMJGA), a Youth Challenge, a live auction with stunning items, and outstanding Radio-One premier program co-hosts, like Cheryl Jackson and Vaughn Holmes.

There are some sponsors who have been with us for 5 years and many supporters of our work who give in whatever ways they can help. It has been an exciting and challenging road to get to this point.

Now my thoughts are toward a vision for our 10th Anniversary in anticipation of where will we be. Not only with the tournament, but with expansion of The Charity Carrousel programs. Our programs help to feed hundreds of needy children, struggling families and the homeless. We started by donating 100 food baskets at one school, and today we support multiple schools and we’re adding new schools each year. The Charity Carrousel currently serves more than 1000 individuals a year.

Our growth, is the direct result of building collaborative partnerships and developing positive relationships with companies including Regus, Wyndham, Entertainment Cruises, Frito Lay, Shoppers, the Gaylord Hotel, The Westin, and Hampton Inns at the National Harbor. Our new partners have stimulated new ideas that have inspired us to go beyond what I could have imagined for our programs during their infancy.

Working with the wonderful school administrators and dedicated counselors who know the children, enables us to identify needy families. We could not help so many people without their intense desire to help their students. Our volunteers work with us before the holidays, so we can bring a team together every year. Their ongoing dedication, has allowed us to gather the food items, prepare the food baskets and deliver them to the families in different schools all in one day. This is the highlight of the year for me.

If I had one wish for our golfers, it would be for each of you to see the results of this day as a coming together not just to play golf, but to see the day through the thankful eyes of the children and parents who are the recipients of all the donations given. In the fiscal year 2017-18, we plan to add new schools to our repertoire and open more food pantries within the schools. We’re looking to create new partnerships and expand upon our existing relationships. We are most grateful to each of you, golfers, sponsors, supporters, speakers, hosts, volunteers and the golf courses across the Greater Washington, DC metropolitan area who generously donated our prizes of complimentary foursomes to play at their beautiful golf courses and country clubs!

Each of you are a treasured gift. Thank you for being here today. We appreciate your ongoing support and are looking forward to your continued participation on our successful journey!

Gratefully yours,

The Charity Carrousel and Southern Maryland Junior Golf Association (SMJGA) Partnership

This is the second year the Charity Carrousel has partnered with SMJGA to support youth in our community. The SMJGA sponsors a very successful, youth golf education program. This organization hosts a SMJGA Junior Tour every year. Students compete at golf courses throughout the area. SMJGA also conducts summer golf programs in three sessions, with classes in Fort Washington and Beltsville, Maryland. We have sponsored students associated with the Charity Carrousel to participate in these sessions over the last two years. The Charity Carrousel supports the children’s need for groceries to feed the family, while the SMJGA program exposes students to all of the benefits of golf, such as building life skills, promoting leadership and encouraging excellence through the introduction to the game of golf.

This year we wanted to include SMJGA future golf super stars to participate in our tournament. We will introduce you to E. Alexander Brooks and Kaleb Matthews, who will be on hole 17, executing the “SMJGA Youth Challenge”. Our students will challenge tournament golfers to beat their shots. The cost is $20 to play the challenge, with 50% of the fee supporting Charity Carrousel programs and 50% will fund the SMJGA scholarship program for its students. E. Alexander Brooks is 13 and will be attending the Palloti School this year, a private school in Laurel Maryland. Kaleb Matthews is 15 years old. At the Tiger Wood AT&T Tournament at Avenal this year, Kaleb, was selected by the tournament golf pro to demonstrate golf technique for the junior clinic. The alternate is Daniel Kibe another outstanding golfer. We challenge you to take the SMJGA Youth Challenge. Prizes include a Top Golf “Join for Free, Free Playing Card”, redeemed at the Alexandria TOPGOLF Location.

SMJGA is an excellent youth program. Aneka Seumanutafa, has been in the SMJGA program for 3 years.
