Founded in 1998, the Trustee Scholarship Initiative was established to encourage more students in central Oklahoma to further their education after high school. Through the Initiative, the Oklahoma City Community Foundation Board of Trustees has created five scholarship programs and the Central Oklahoma Guidance Counselor Network to help accomplish this goal. Each program and the network are designed to meet very specific needs and opportunities. To date, the Trustee Scholarship Initiative has awarded more than $4 million in scholarship funds to more than 3,150 students in central Oklahoma. An important component in the Oklahoma City Community Foundation’s Trustee Scholarship Initiative is the Central Oklahoma Guidance Counselor Network, which provides training and support for high school guidance counselors at 51 public and private high schools in central Oklahoma.

We realize counselors play an important role for college-bound students and the information offered through two annual continuing education workshops provides the only opportunity to learn about current college admission issues and financial aid opportunities. In addition, we coordinate campus visits for counselors to universities, colleges and technology centers in Oklahoma and surrounding states. As an added incentive, each year we provide at least one Community Foundation Scholars Through our free workshops, held twice a year, award to each of the high schools whose guidance counselor guidance counselors learn the latest practices in participated in the activities. college admissions and financial aid.

6 | 2011 Oklahoma City Community Foundation Scholarship Yearbook 2011 Congratulations to the Class of 2011!

The 141 students featured on the following pages are the 2011 Community Foundation Scholars and Foundation of Promise Scholars. The Oklahoma City Community Foundation is honored to recognize these worthy students and to congratulate them on their accomplishments and dreams.

“I grew up in a middle class family of six children, and when it was time to pay for college, I was on my own. My scholarship from the Oklahoma City Community Foundation lightened the financial burden and enabled me to pursue my undergraduate degree without taking out a loan. I wasn’t a star athlete or valedictorian, but I was a hard worker. I appreciate the Oklahoma City Community Foundation investing in my future, when I wasn’t sure what the future held.”

Endowments for nonprofit organizations create an annual stream of income for organizations.

We also have unrestricted funds established by donors that allow our Trustees to meet changing needs and opportunities within the community. In all, we administer more than 1,000 funds.

Let us help you help the community.
