The process included meeting with structural engineers, instructional material team, pro- duction and outside vendors. 2008 – present GOOGLE GRANT: GOOGLE GRANTS are a in-kind donation program awarding $10,000 a month in free advertising to select charitable organizations. They support organizations sharing their phi- losophy of community service to help the world in areas such as science and technology, education, global public health, the environment, youth advocacy, and the arts.

2011 SABBATICAL. Awarded a sabbatical for Spring 2012. Typographic Inspiration and Process: Typeface Design in the Digital Era explores the origins, inspirations, visions, historic letterform references, anatomy, optics, geometry, and the process of designing a typeface. In addition to indi- vidual research I am a guest designer for the Font Studio at Hallmark Cards.

2011 HALLMARK FACULTY ENRICHMENT GRANT: Awarded $1,290.00 2011 NSF GRANT. Awarded nearly $150,000 for Quarked! Adventures in the Subatomic Universe. Quarked was awarded by the Kansas National Science Foundation.

2006 HALLMARK FACULTY ENRICHMENT GRANT: Awarded $1,290.00 2006 EWING MARION KAUFFMAN FOUNDATION. Co-Investigator. Awarded $75,000 for Quarked! Adventures in the Subatomic Universe. The Quarked! project was conceived by Professor Alice Bean at the University of Kansas in 2003 as an entertaining method of introducing the world of subatomic physics to kids and adults.

2005 NSFCOR GRANT. Co-Investigator. Awarded nearly $200,000 for Quarked! Adventures in the Subatomic Universe. Quarked was awarded by the Kansas National Science Foundation NSFCor for the execution of an interactive multi-media education.

2004 HALLMARK FACULTY ENRICHMENT. Awarded $3,870 to attend TypeCon 2004 and participate in 3 workshops.

PROFESSONAL ACTIVITIES: CONFERENCES (ORGANIZER)

2007 – 2010 AIGA BOARD, Kansas City, Director of Education & Student Groups. Nominated for a two year term (served three). Monthly meetings in Kansas City. The Education Director is respon- sible for achieving the education agenda of AIGA through student and education-oriented programming and events. I worked closely and liaison with the Student Groups (both locally & regionally) to develop appropriate programming, support needs, help with retention and answer all education-related questions. I was also responsible for establishing a network of educators within the community and advance the visibility of and awareness for AIGA’s role among young professionals.

2010 KANSAS CITY DESIGN WEEK. Organized and hosted Keynote speaker 2010 UCDA SUMMIT, co-chair with Jeremy Shellhorn. Organized including call for papers and peer reviews. The 3-day summit hosted over 100 higher education design educators from around the country and abroad.

SERVICE ACTIVITIES DEPARTMENT CONTINUING SERVICE 2008 – present WEB PORTAL. Visual Communication Student Awards and Recognition Web Portal. Organize and post to a CargoCollective website all awards and recognition KU Visual Communication students receive throughout the year. 2006 – present PROTOTYPE STUDENT GROUP, FACULTY ADVISOR. The goal of the student group is to get the student involved in the local design community, create a community of their own and help them build leadership skills that will be valuable as they move into the professional world. As the faculty advisor I am required to oversee and facilitate the meetings, events and activities of the group, keep in contact with other faculty advisors and the chapter, oversee membership, and submit a year-end report. There are over 60 KU student members. 2005 – present HALLMARK SYMPOSIUM LECTURE POSTERS. Coordinate students to design and produce the posters. The students are responsible for contacting the speaker, concept development and producing the posters. (my hopes are to get these done over the summer for the next school year. So that they are even better, more engaging, can be sent out/displayed ahead of time. This would also student(s) to contact the speaker get information about the speaker and the topic. And the students can take the opportunity to use letterpress, serigraphy, photography, etc. 2003 – present HALLMARK SYMPOSIUM HOST. And now compiling a book about the ID student thesis projects, process and final presentations. 2011 HAMILTON WOOD TYPE MUSEUM, organized with colleague Linda Samson Telleur a week long workshop at Hamilton Wood Type Museum Workshop in Two Rivers, WI. Nine students spent the week printing in the museum. 2011 PREFLIGHT: KU DEPARTMENT OF DESIGN/VISUAL COMMUNICATION PORTFOLIO DAY. Orga- nized a 2-day four session review. Over 60 sophomores, juniors and seniors and over 50 profes- sional from the area participated. Each professional reviewed 5 different students one-on-one for 30 minutes. Each student presented their work to 3 – 9 professionals. 2011 STUDENT TRIP TO CHICAGO. Colleague Jeremy Shellhorn organized a 3-day trip. 20 Seniors visited 4 Chicago agencies/studios and the toured the ITT campus. 2011 NATIONAL STUDENT CONFERENCE in Dallas. 2012 NEW GTA CONFERENCE. Lead breakout session on “Teaching One-on-One.” 2007 – 2009 UNIVERSITY SENATE, JUDICIAL BOARD. The Judicial Board reviews grievance appeals. For disputes involving alleged academic misconduct or alleged violations of student rights, the initial hearing normally will be at the unit , however, there is an option to hold an initial hearing at the Judicial Board level. 2003 – 2005 VISUAL IDENTITY COMMITTEE. The University of Kansas The committee is a sub committee of the KU Marketing Council. The VIC was charged with analyzing and the current university visual identity, making recommendations, and eventually overseeing the redesign and implemen- tation of a new KU visual identity. 2005 OFFICE OF STUDENT SERVICES. Hawk Week competition judge, juried the student competition for the Hawk Week 2005 logo. 2004 PHI BETA DELTA “Picture the world”. Honor Society of International Scholars, The University of Kansas. Juror, Picture the World photo contest and exhibition. 2004 SPENCER MUSEUM OF ART. Search committee member. Served on the search committee to fill a graphic design position in the museum.
