Since the present Moortown ward came into existence only the Lib Dems have beaten Labour in Elections. Voting over Carr Manor Conservative, UKIP or Green just helps Labour. Lib Dem Councillors such as Mark Harris and Brenda Lancaster represented our area for decades. Voting for anyone but the Lib Dems will mean that Labour win. Play Area Worries that new play area isn’t fit for purpose The new children’s play area on Carr Manor Fields has been branded unfit for purpose and unsafe after concerns which local residents raised with the Labour councillors before building began still have not been addressed. Six months on they are now plagued by anti-social behaviour, dangerously parked cars, broken glass and the fear of serious accidents due to the inadequate safety provisions at the play area which is so near to busy Stonegate Road. At a recent residents’ meeting (which many of those affected said they were not notified of) many of those attending were disappointed to hear that some of their concerns (including speed and parking restrictions) were not being considered by the Council.

Local Liberal Democrat campaigner Chris Howley has approached the council on the issue. Chris said, ‘Moortown and Meanwood residents are again feeling let down by the Labour-run council. Consultation and communication need to significantly improve to avoid more money being wasted on ill- thought-out schemes. Safety improvements are urgently needed to rectify these problems, involving additional spending which could have been avoided had they been taken into account before the play area was built.

'Liberal Democrats are calling for these safety improvements to be made without delay. In addition we would like to see the 30mph speed limit zone to include this area, a pedestrian crossing for families using the Field, adequate policing as well as a second play area on King Alfred’s Field to reduce the Local Lib Dem campaigners Chris Howley (left) and Ian Downling are furious congestion at the Carr Manor Fields site.
