Speech Language Therapy Professional Leader & Practice Supervisor

 Permanent, 32-40 hours per week  Auckland City Hospital, Grafton location

A very unique and exciting opportunity has arisen for a combined Speech Language Therapy (SLT) Professional Leader (PL) and Practice Supervisor (PS) at Auckland District health Board (ADHB).

This combined role consists of a fixed 0.5 FTE PL component which will report to the Chief Health Professions Officer and a negotiable 0.3-0.5 FTE PS component which will report to the Allied Health Service Manager.

In the PL role you will be responsible for the professional leadership of SLT services across ADHB, including adult and paediatric services to Auckland City Hospital (adult acute and ORL), Starship Children’s Health, Home Health community services, Rehab Plus and the Child Development Team. Whereas in the PS role you will be responsible for the clinical leadership of the acute adult Speech Language Therapy team at Auckland City Hospital.

Primary responsibilities of the Professional Leader role:  To provide assurance of the clinical safety of services provided by speech-language therapists  To work in partnership to implement the business unit strategy/service plans in line with ADHB’s strategy and goals  To ensure the clinical/managerial partnership is maximised to promote quality clinical outcomes for the service  To represent all of allied health at various service meetings

Primary responsibilities of the Practice Supervisor role:  To provide discipline-specific leadership, advice to management, and ensure supervision of a designated group of staff as negotiated with the relevant allied health manager service manager  To contribute to the leadership and management of the Speech Language Therapy team  To promote clinical quality and professional governance in collaboration with the Professional Leader  To oversee the development of clinical competency within the team, including Fibreoptic  Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES), Videofluoroscopy (VFSS) and Tracheostomy.

We are looking for a Speech Language Therapist who is eligible for NZSTA membership and has a minimum of 8-10 years’ relevant experience. You must have excellent clinical and professional leadership skills as well as a proven ability to manage and develop SLTs. You will have established competency and clinical leadership experience in dysphagia management, VFSS, FEES and tracheostomy, and also experience in implementation of evidence based practice and service development initiatives. Your Post-graduate clinical qualifications are desirable.
