OFFICIAL VISIT OF PROF. DR. P. RAMASAMY, THE DEPUTY CHIEF MINISTER OF TO TAMIL 01 - 05 August 2019 NADU AND KARNATAKA

Honourable Prof. Dr. P. Ramasamy, the Deputy , Malaysia undertook an Official Visit to Tamil Nadu and Karnataka from 1-5 August 2019. Honourable Prof. Dr. P. Ramasamy was accompanied by Honourable Lim Kit Siang, Member of Parliament for Iskandar Puteri, Honourable M. Satees, State Assemblymen for constituency and Dato’ S. Sundarajoo, Chief Operating Officer of Eco World Development Limited, Malaysia. While in Tamil Nadu, the Deputy Chief Minister and delegation paid a courtesy call on Honourable Edappadi K. Palaniswami, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, interactions with Malaysian students in Chennai and engagement with Home Based Staff of the Consulate. Also, the delegation paid a courtesy call on His Highness, Nawab Muhammad Abdul Ali, Prince of Arcot. The delegation also visited Vinayaka Mission’s Research Foundation in Salem, Tamil Nadu. The Deputy Chief Minister also had an interaction session with Malaysian students studying at Vinayaka Missions University. In Bangalore, Karnataka, the delegation visited Biocon and was briefed by Madam Kiran Mazumdar on the company’s operation especially in Malaysia. Biocon owns Asia’s largest insulin producing facility in Johor Bahru, Malaysia. The delegation also had fruitful discussion with start-ups and growing industry players of Karnataka, facilitated by Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI).

OFFICIAL VISIT OF HON. M. KULA SEGARAN, MINISTER OF HUMAN RESOURCES OF MALAYSIA 25 - 27 November 2019 Honourable M. Kula Segaran, Minister of Human Resources of Malaysia, along with officials from Malaysia Social Security Organisation (SOCSO) undertook an Official Visit to Bangalore and Chennai from 25 to 27 November 2019. The delegation visited ESI Post Graduate Institute Of Medical Science and Research in Bangalore on 25 November 2019 and also Apollo Proton Cancer Centre Chennai, Tamil Nadu on 26 November 2019. The visit also serves as a benchmark for the possibility of establishing a Proton Therapy Center in Malaysia.

MYGOV*NET GLOBAL IMPLEMENTATION SESSION

16 – 20 December 2019

MyGov*Net. Global Implementation briefing session was held at the Consulate General of Malaysia in Chennai by GITN where the migration presentation slides and the MyGov*Net.Global network migration implementation workshop on migration activities took place from December 16 to December 20, 2019.

Introductory call by Mr. Nitirooge Phoneprasert, the new Consul General of the Kingdom of Thailand at the Consulate. Mr. Phoneprasert previous postings includes Germany, Peru and short stint in Malaysia.

4th July 2019

Courtesy call by Mr. Hardian Hadir, Head of Marketing, PETRONAS Energy (India) Pvt. Ltd. at the Consulate. Mr Hardian gave a briefing on the operations of PETRONAS in India. The company is 100 percent owned by PETRONAS and mainly focuses on Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) related businesses. While PETRONAS is the 3rd world largest LNG producer, India is the 4th largest buyer of LNG. PETRONAS is ranked among Fortune Global 500's largest corporations in the world.

Discussion with Dr S.M. Mazharullah, Executive Director of Anjuman-E- Himayath-E-Islam Institution at the Consulate today. The institution is one of the oldest educational institutions in South India. Started in 1890, Anjuman runs orphanages for boys and girls where around 700 children receive care, guidance, physical and mental comfort. It also offers scholarships to children requiring aid for higher studies on the basis of merit.

4th July 2019

Meeting with Dr Rahul Raghavan Menon, CEO of MGM Healthcare Private Limited and his colleagues at the Consulate. The purpose of the meeting is to establish clinical exchange programme between MGM Healthcare and Ministry of Health, Malaysia. The MGM group, over the course, has stood tall and ranked 23rd among medical institutions in India and the seventh medical college to be accredited by the American Heart Association.

5th July 2019

Meeting with Perak Indian Chamber of Commerce (PICC) at the Consulate today. The purpose of the meeting is to brief on the upcoming Perak-India Trade and Investment Convention (PITIC) scheduled to be held in the month of September 2019 in Ipoh, Perak. PITIC, an initiative of Perak State Government aims to connect Indian businesses and investors with the growth opportunities in the state. It also serves as a platform for networking between Malaysian and India businesses. Main highlights of PITIC includes business to business matchmaking, networking sessions, seminars and exhibitions. Also in attendance during the meeting is Mr. Muzzafar Shah from MATRADE Chennai.

10th September 2019

Meeting between Consul General and Mr Srikumar Dheena, Managing Director of Al Helal Gas Pipelines. The company specialize in installation and maintenance of central gas systems and distribution of gas in bulk to industrial and commercial customers. It also provides complete solution to the customer needs. Al Helal Gas Pipelines intends to expand its business in Malaysia

Meeting between Consul General and Mrs. Latha Rajinikant on 11 September 2019. She briefed on her charity work in India and wishes to collaborate with Malaysian NGOs related to her cause. Currently, she is the Patron of Shree Dayaa Foundation and Peace for Children Foundation based in Chennai.

25th October 2019

Meeting with Honourable M. Nagarjuna, Member of Legislative Assembly of Vemuru constituency, Andhra Pradesh. The meeting served as a platform to discuss issues of mutual interest and to explore trade and investment opportunities.

Singapore. Also present was the Consul General of the Kingdom of Thailand. Presently there are three ASEAN Consulates in Chennai namely Malaysia, the Republic of Singapore and the Royal Kingdom of Thailand.

Meeting with Dato' S.Prakadeesh Kumar CEO of Plus Max Group from Malaysia and his team at the Consulate. Plus Max Group will offer a wide range of high-quality duty free products to the diplomatic community in Chennai soon.

On 11 July 2019, Consul General along with Trade Consul undertook a visit to Sri City Integrated Business Park. Sri City, which was founded in 2008, is one of the coveted business destinations in the country with total investments close to USD 4 billion and total exports exceeding USD 500 million till date. Spread over 7500 acres, Sri City includes a multiproduct Special Economic Zone (SEZ), a Domestic Tariff Zone (DTZ), a Free Trade & Warehousing Zone (FTWZ) and an Electronics Manufacturing Cluster. Sri City is home to over 185 companies from 27 countries including multinationals like Kelloggs, Isuzu, Mondelez, Pepsi, Alstom, Kobelco, Foxconn and Danieli. The Park is located 55 km from Chennai and bordering Andhra Pradesh.

Consul General was invited by Sree Sankara Bala Vidyalaya Golden Jubilee School and Junior College as the Chief of Guest for the 12th Annual Day Celebrations. Also present during the function was Mr A. Sriram, Chairman of the institution. It was an honour to be invited to the prestigious institution and to be able to interact with the students.

In conjunction of Visit Malaysia 2020, Malaysia Tourism Chennai, Malaysia Travel & Tours Association of Malaysia (MATTA) and the Consulate jointly organized MALAYSIA TRAVEL EXCHANGE (MTEX) 2019.

The roadshow was conducted at 4 cities in South India namely Chennai, Madurai, Coimbatore, and Cochin. The year 2020 has been designated as Visit Malaysia 2020 (VM2020) during which 30 million international tourists are expected to visit Malaysia. During the inauguration of the roadshow, the logo of Visit Malaysia 2020 was revealed to the audience.

Currently there are 8 JPA-sponsored students in Mysore (5 interns and 3 students in 4BDS) studying in Dentistry. The last 3 students are expected to complete their studies in 2021.

Courtesy call to Principal of JSS Dental College, JSS Academy of Higher Education (JSS AHER) to discuss the performance of JPA-sponsored students and problems faced in regards to their studies and well-being.

One-on-one session with student struggling in their studies (health issues etc.)

Networking lunch with JPA-sponsored students as an introduction to the new Penasihat Pendidikan dan Latihan (PPL) Officer.

WORKING VISIT TO MANGALORE (4 – 6 SEPTEMBER 2019)

Currently there are 10 JPA-sponsored students in Mangalore studying in Dentistry. All students will complete their studies in 2020 and return back to Malaysia for good.

Discussion was held with respective colleges in terms of the performance of JPA-sponsored students in their studies as well as their well-being.

Student Monitoring and Development Program

(PPP) 8/2019 series”, BELGAUM (OCTOBER 18-19, 2019)

Currently there are 129 JPA-sponsored students in Belgaum (6 Dentistry students and 123 Medical students). The last batch of students is expected to graduate in 2021.

The program was separated into 2 sessions: Session 1 for USM-KLE students and Session 2 for KLE-VKIDS students.

Content of the program includes an introduction to the new PPL Officer, a talk on clauses of JPA-Sponsorship Agreement and Q&A session.

Courtesy call to USM-KLE and KLE-VKIDS. Discussion was held with respective colleges in terms of the performance of JPA-sponsored students in their studies as well as their well-being.

WORKING VISIT TO DHARWAD (19-20 OKTOBER 2019)

There is only 1 JPA-sponsored student left in College of Dental Sciences, Dharwad since September 2018, who will complete his internship in January 2020.

A casual dinner with the student is held to boost his morale and inquire on his well-being.

The student is reminded to keep close contact with PPL Chennai and brace himself for the balance of days in India.

PERWAKILAN is an acronym of “Persatuan Wanita Kementerian Luar Negeri” meaning the “Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ladies Association”. It is a voluntary non-profit organization and was established following the establishment of the Consulate General.

It is currently chaired by Mrs. Anetha Butpanathan, wife of the Consul General. Membership is automatically opened to wives of Home-Based Staff of the Malaysian Consulate General Office and Malaysian Government of Agencies in Chennai.

From July to November 2019 PERWAKILAN Chennai held monthly Al-Kahfi recitation, celebrating Aidil Adha, Malaysia Day, Malaysian Sports Day, attending demonstrations of Malaysian cuisine and PERWAKILAN meeting. PERWAKILAN also welcomes four new members: (i) Puan Nik Mardhiyya Binti Nik Mohamad (ii) Cik Hasnah Binti Yahya (iii) Puan Nurdalila Binti Ahamad (iv) Puan Nur Afiah Binti A. Aziz

A farewell ceremony was held for Mrs. Amaliza Binti Bahari who will be stationed at the New York UN and Mrs. Hajjah Intan Masyitah Binti Hj. Mohd. Murad, Vice Consul of Education & Training (PSD) back to Malaysia, and Mrs. Zubaidah Binti Idris who accompanied her husband, Mr. Razali Bin Abdul Rahman on duty in Abu Dhabi.
