COMMONS SELECT COMMITTEES BUSINESS, ENERGY AND INDUSTRIAL STRATEGY COMMITTEE May 2020

COMMITTEE PRIORITIES Darren Jones has been elected the Committee’s new Chair, succeeding Rachel Reeves following her appointment to ’s Shadow Cabinet.

We expect the Committee under him will continue to examine subjects of interest to our industry, such as climate change, which Mr Jones has indicated will be the main priority of the Committee alongside the impact of COVID-19.

The Committee is currently looking at the impact of COVID-19 on businesses and workers and the audit market, and we can expect new inquiries to be announced in due course following Mr Jones’ election. As with other committees, scrutinising the Government’s response to COVID-19 is likely to remain the short-term priority.
