Tomorrow in Rio: U.S. Men vs. Italy, 12p ET The U.S. Men will face Italy in the first semifinal matchup on Aug. 19 at noon ET. The U.S. defeated Poland and Italy beat Iran 3-0 in quarterfinals. Watch on TV: NBC, 12p ET Watch the live stream U.S. Women vs. Serbia, 12p ET The U.S. Women are 6-0 in these Olympic Games and will play Serbia (4-2) in the first semifinal today in Rio. The two countries met in pool play with the Americans winning in four sets. Serbia was the 2015 FIVB World Cup silver medalist; the U.S. earned the bronze. The USA-Serbia winner advances to the gold-medal match on Saturday at 9:15 p.m. ET to play the winner of Netherlands and China in the second semifinal; the bronze-medal match on Saturday at noon ET. Team USA is looking for its third straight appearance in the gold-medal match, finishing with the silver medal in 2008 and 2012. Foluke Akinradewo ranks first as the Best Spiker at the Olympic Games with a .451 hitting efficiency and is the Americans’ top scorer. She also is third in Best Blocker among players remaining in the competition. Alisha Glass ranks first in Best Setter with a 10.91 running sets average. Volleyball DIVISION I 2009 Championship Highlights Penn State Erases Two-Set Deficit To Take Unprecedented Third Straight Crown Over Texas: Since before the season started, this was the matchup that the college volleyball world had dreamed of. And did it turn out to be a sweet reality. One of the most highly anticipated NCAA Championship matches of all-time delivered in every way possible, ending with No. 1 Penn State (38-0) becoming the first team to claim three consecutive national titles, with a 22-25, 20-25, 25-23, 25-21, 15-13 victory over second-seeded Texas (29-2) on December 19 in the St. Pete Times Forum. Penn State and Texas held the top two spots in every version of the AVCA poll this season, occupied the top two seeds in the NCAA tournament and lost just one set apiece in the Tournament en route to advancing to the title match. Their combined 66-1 record coming in was the second-best ever among teams in the final. Despite the high expectations, this match didn’t disappoint - de- livering an individual performance for the ages, high-level play all the way and a stirring comeback from the champions. In what seemed to be fitting, the match came down to one final set—and it was just as exciting as the rest of the match. The score was tied for the 10th time in the fifth at 12-12, when Darcy Dorton’s kill nudged Penn State ahead. On the next point, Texas’ Destinee Hooker sent an attack attempt long, which gave the Nittany Lions a match point.

The 2018-2019 FIVB World Tour calendar includes two five-star events, both are part of the Beach Major Series, 12 four-star events, 6 three-star events, 8 two-star events, and 29 one-star events, along with the FIVB World Championships and the World Tour Finals. One FIVB Age Group World Championships for players under the age of 21 will also be held along with an Olympic Qualification Tournament in September. The 2018-2019 World Tour began in August of 2018 in Hungary and will conclude in September of 2019 with The World Tour Finals in Rome, Italy.
