TRIALS. Rosa and Milly in Year 7 and Evie and Billy-Bob in Year 8, were excellent lawyers and gave the other schools a range of challenging questions to answer. Thomas acted as a court usher and gave a fantastic performance, considering he only had 24 hours to prepare!

Harrison, Lila, Billy-Bob and Charlie acted as witnesses in the case and were very resilient in answering challenging questions from the other teams. Holly, Morgan and May gave a splendid performance as magistrates and responded clearly to challenges about their opinions on the case.

A fantastic experience for all involved with students keen to carry on competing in future trials. HIGH PERFORMANCE ACADEMY SUCCESS

embers of the St Ives School High Performance Academy (HPA), have recently attended some excellent sessions in both English and drama.

MThree Academies make up the overall HPA: The Academic Academy, The Creative Academy and the Sports Academy with sessions designed to support and promote the progress of students in these areas.

In the English sessions, students learned about the Cornish Language. We are very grateful to Delia Brotherton, a Cornish language specialist who began by teaching the young people about Cornish place names as a way into the language. She then followed up by encouraging the students to get creative through the medium of storytelling and poetry.

We are looking forward to seeing how the students fare in the competition – where creative writing on Cornish culture is celebrated and showcased.

In the drama sessions we were fortunate to welcome Lee Dillon-Stuart, professional actor and director who led a session on storytelling. The students were absolutely brilliant, telling stories with enthusiasm and aplomb – we were all impressed by the confidence that we saw in the students We would like to thank Kidz R Us St Ives for helping to facilitate the session.

Over the next few months, the HPA sessions will include the origins of the English Language, advanced writing skills, By Heart Poetry and a visit to BBC Radio Cornwall; our older students are booked up for a whole day on the poetry of Thomas Hardy.
