R Chidambaram Dr. R. Chidambaram is the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India and Principal Scientific Advisor to Chairman of the Scientific Advisory Committee to the Cabinet. He is also a Member of Government of India, Vigyan Bhavan PM’s Council on Climate Change, Chairman of National Knowledge Network HLC, and a Annexe, New Delhi member of the Space Commission. He is one of India’s distinguished experimental [email protected] physicists and has made outstanding contributions to many aspects of basic science and +911123022112 nuclear technology. He received his Ph.D. degree from IISc Bangalore in 1962, joined BARC, and became its Director in 1990. He was Chairman, IAEC (1993-2000), and Chair of IAEA BoG (1994-95). Baldev Raj Professor Baldev Raj’s work on non-destructive evaluation, different aspects of materials, Director, National Institute of nuclear systems science and technology is well known through 1300 plus publications, 80 Advanced Studies, Bangalore plus books, 100 plus articles in encyclopedia and handbooks, technologies, patents, and [email protected] standards. Rajkumar Roy Professor Roy has led Competitive Design research at Cranfield for over sixteen years. He Director of Manufacturing, Director of set up the Centre for Competitive Creative Design (C4D), a £5.5 million investment from the EPSRC Centre for Innovative HEFCE, Cranfield University, UAL and EEDA. This is an initiative to link design with Manufacturing in Through-life science, technology and management. He has buillt high performance teams and is Engineering Services, Cranfield leading collaborative research and development with industry. Amaresh Chakrabarti Professor Chakrabarti has a BE (Mech Engg, IIEST Shibpur), ME (Mech Design, IISc) and a Professor and Chairman, Centre for PhD (Engg Design, Univ of Cambridge UK). After PhD, he led for 10 years the Design Product Design and Manufacturing, Synthesis group at the EPSRC Centre for Excellence at Cambridge. His interests are in Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore creativity, sustainability, informatics, virtual reality and smart manufacturing. He [email protected] authored/edited 13 books, over 280 peer-reviewed articles, and has 10 patents +91 9845937443 granted/pending. He is associated with over 15 International Journals in editorial work. Manoj Kumar Tiwari Prof. Manoj Kumar Tiwari is working in the domain of Manufacturing Systems and Supply Professor, Department of Industrial & Chain Management. His research and teaching interests are in modeling of Systems Engineering, Indian Institute manufacturing processes and operations analysis in supply chain networks. Madeline Gabriel Madeleine Gabriel leads international research and policy projects to explore how Head, Inclusive Innovation, Nesta, UK innovation can tackle big social challenges. Her current work includes a study on whether [email protected] and how the concept of 'frugal innovation' could apply in Europe; a partnership with the São Paulo State Government to explore how open innovation models could improve healthcare outcomes; and a project for the European Commission on policy development for social innovation. She is passionately interested in the relationship between innovation and inequality, and in exploring the role that innovation - and innovation policy - can play in promoting greater equality.

Anil Rajvanshi Dr. Anil Rajvanshi’s pioneering rural development work for the last three decades Director and Hon. Secretary has spanned a whole spectrum of areas affecting the lives of rural population: renewable Nimbkar Agricultural Research Insitute energy based cooking and lighting; power generation from agricultural residues; Tambmal, Phaltan-Lonand Road, renewable fuel production from agriculture; electric cycle rickshaws; water purification [email protected] and effluent treatment through the use of renewable energy. In this, he was the first person to promote the use of high technology for rural development – an idea that is in vogue nowadays. Born and raised in Lucknow, Rajvanshi went to US for higher studies at the University of Florida after B.Tech and M.Tech from in Mechanical Engineering from I.I.T. Kanpur. After his PhD in 1979, he taught at the University of Florida for two and half years and then came back to India to apply his training for developing rural India, establishing the energy and sustainable development work at Nimbkar Agricultural Research Institute (NARI) at

Phaltan, Maharashtra.

Daniel Steenstra Daniel is Royal Academy of Engineering’s Professor in Medical Innovation, hosted by Visiting Professor, Cranfield University, Cranfield University. He has a unique combination of skills and expertise, graduating in UK Medicine then working in design and innovation management in companies such as [email protected] Jaguar, Unilever and Alstom. He is MD of Innovations Factory Ltd, which develops and commercialises healthcare products including for near-patient testing. Over the last 18 years Daniel led complex multi-stakeholder projects in academia and industry. At Cranfield, he led activities in the ATMP sector. Daniel’s focus now is action research into the application of disruptive innovation in healthcare.

Anil P Joshi Dr. Anil Prakash has doctoral degree in ecology, combined with his personal conviction Himalayan Environmental Studies and that villagers need to optimize the use of nature's bounty, has formed a marriage of Conservation Orgnization, science and entrepreneurship in his organization Himalayan Environmental Studies and Shuklapur, Dehradun Conservation Organization. He lives among the local people providing them with a +91 9411109073, realistic sense of how much intervention would be needed to change perceptions about [email protected] bio-mass use. After three years of teaching botany in a local college, he decided to take his ideas from the laboratory into the field. His father, who is a farmer, continues to be a strong source of encouragement; his wife and son are also part of his mission. It is not everyone who has the satisfaction of doing something which impacts close to 5 lakh villagers, in more than 10,000 villages, spread across 9 mountain states of the Himalayas. He has a target to work for people of hills consisting of poor farmers and sharecroppers.

Ambuj Sagar Prof. Sagar works in policies related to science & technology, environment, and Vipula and Mahesh Chaturvedi development, focusing on the interactions between technology and society. His current Professor of Policy Studies, research is on energy innovation and climate policy, as well as various facets of IIT Delhi technology innovation, environmental politics and processes, and engineering education [email protected] and research. He currently is advising/interacting with various agencies of the Indian Government and several multilateral and bilateral organizations; while in the US, he worked with a range of private and public-sector organizations in the US (including as a staff researcher for a major study on energy R&D for the White House). He currently is a member of the Indian Government's Expert Committee on Low-Carbon Strategies for Inclusive Growth, the US-India Track-II Dialogue on Climate Change, as well as other advisory groups in the Indian Government.

Smita S Mule Smita S Mule is contributing to technology transfer activities of BARC, by evolving a Scientific Officer-H, Technology programme called AKRUTI - Advanced Knowledge and RUral Technology Implementation, Transfer & Collaboration Division, which aims for large scale deployment of spin off technologies developed by BARC/DAE Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, for inclusive growth of rural areas. She has been involved in promoting spin off Trombay, Mumbai-400085 technologies in public domain, transferring these technologies to industries, societal collaborations for setting up Rural Human & Resource Development Facilities, AKRUTI Tech Pack agreements, etc. She has interacted with interested companies, education institutes, NGOs, Trusts, Woman Entrepreneurs, Individual villagers and other Govt. departments. The programme has benefitted more than 40 rural techno-prenuers. D R Mehta Mr. Mehta is Founder and Chief Patron of BMVSS; he is a retired IAS officer and former Founder & Chief Patron Chairman of SEBI; earlier Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank of India. He set up BMVSS, Jaipur India Bhagwan Mahaveer Viklang Sahayata Samiti (BMVSS) in Jaipur in 1975 and is now its full- [email protected] time honorary volunteer. Under his leadership, BMVSS emerged as the largest organization for the handicapped in the world, providing artificial limbs / calipers and other aids and appliances for free, benefitting more than 1 million people so far. An MOU between Stanford University and BMVSS resulted in the development of a new Knee Joint, hailed by the Time Magazine as one of the 50 Best Inventions of the World for the year 2009. In 2008 he was conferred with the Padma Bhushan by the President of India. Other awards include TECH Museum Award for Innovation and Its Use for Humanity, The Indian for Collective Action Award, DIWALI BEHAN Award (conferred by Dalai Lama), CNBC Award for Social Enterprise, Satpal Mittal Award, Rajiv Gandhi National Sadbhavana Award, etc. He is also a director on the Europe / Asia Board of the Alfred Sloan School of Management, MIT, USA. Pratap Bhanu Singh Bhadoria Prof. Bhadoria was awarded Alexander-von-Humboldt Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship Coordinator of Design Innovation in Göttingen University, Germany and ICRA Fellowship of IAC, Wageningen, Netherlands, RuTAG-Cell and FoodSecurity. for field study of farming systems in Guimaras, Philippines. He guided 16 Ph.D., 35 IIT Kharagpur M.Tech. and 30 B.Tech. students and handled 27 sponsored research projects and four [email protected] consultancy including one each from Volkswagen Foundation, Germany, Herons Bonsai Ltd., U.K. and IWMI, Sri Lanka. He published 148 papers and three books and 4 book chapters, and filed 25 patents. L S Ganesh L S Ganesh (aka LSG) has over three decades of academic experience involving teaching, Professor, Department of research and intellectual services, and associations with major professional bodies. His Management Studies, academic interests span the areas of Systems Thinking and Applications, Sustainability IIT Madras, Chennai Studies, Data and Decision Analysis, Social Entrepreneurship, and Project, Technology and Knowledge Management. His research papers continue to be published in reputed academic journals and are cited often. He has been conferred the prestigious ‘Distinguished Fellow’ by Project Management Institute (India) and ‘Distinguished Professor’ by Computer Society of India (Mumbai).

Santosh Kumar Mishra Prof. Santosh Kumar Mishra is currently the Acting Director at the CSIR-Institute of [email protected] Minerals & Materials Technology, Bhubaneswar. He is a graduate in Electrical Engineering from IIT Kharagpur and holds Master’s degree in Electronic Design Technology from IISc Bangalore. He has received higher training at the University of Wuppertal in West Germany on advanced power conversion systems. He joined CSIR as a Scientist in 1983 and has acquired wide experience since then in R&D work for various projects, academic training programme of scientist trainees, management of R&D programmes, and of late in leading the societal extension programme of CSIR.

Stephen Fox Dr. Stephen Fox has twenty-five years' industry experience as an apprentice, craftsman, [email protected] manager and director. He obtained all his qualifications while working full-time in industry. He has more than fifteen years of experience carrying out scientific research, development, and innovation work. His work is reported in professional periodicals and scientific journals including: Journal of Consumer Culture; Journal of Manufacturing Technology Management; Manufacturing Engineer; Technology Forecasting & Social Change; and Technology in Society. Most relevant to this discussion is his work in socio- technical systems for breaking down barriers to people manufacturing their own prosperity in regions without industrial infrastructure. Himadri Ghosh Prof. Himadri Ghosh is a Director of Banasthali Institute of Design and Dean of Faculty of [email protected] Design and is also the mentor for Craft Village, New Delhi. He has more than 45 years of experience in the area of Craft, Manufacturing, Textiles, Exports Of Garments, Design Education and Institution Building. A former Chairperson (education) of National Institute of Design, he held many positions in the academic and industrial world. He also is associated with the craft sector since 1971 and his involvement is mostly with sustainable livelihood options for craftsman. A textile technologist and turn designer has been associated with design education from last 28 years.

Ketaki Bapat Dr. Ketaki Bapat is currently working as a Senior Scientist in the office of the Principal Scientist 'F', Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser to Government of India. She is coordinating various initiatives such as Scientific Adviser to the Govt. of India Rural Technology Action Group, Identifying gifted children in Maths & Science, Science in [email protected] Ayurveda etc. She holds PhD in Applied Biology, Mumbai University and has worked in the Radio-pharmaceuticals Division, BARC Mumbai prior joining the PSA Office in 2007. She has worked in the area of radio-labelling of phytochemicals, hormones, diagnostic assay techniques, trained several IAEA sponsored trainees, visited Sri-Lanka as an IAEA expert and delivered invited lectures. Sanjay Singh Sanjay Singh completed B.Sc (Tech) in Ceramics Technology from College of Ceramic Scientist G and Advisor Technology in 1984, and subsequently completed B.Tech in Industrial Engineering. He Technology Information, Forecasting worked for over 13 years in with experience in Refractory development and Assessment Council (TIFAC), DST, and application. He had designed and also steering the TIFAC MSME Program covering New Delhi more than 40 clusters across the country. He is also piloting the MSME Internship [email protected] scheme, under which students interaction with Industries is facilitated. Earlier he had [email protected] also nucleated the innovation support program TREMAP, under which several technologies have been commercilaized. A S Varadarajan Dr. Varadarajan obtained his BTech from the University of Calicut, M.Tech and PhD from Professor (Retd) IIT Madras. He has done pioneering work in the area of Green Manufacturing with a N S S College of Engineering, Pallakad focus on cutting fluid minimization. Keshab Das Prof. Keshab Das holds MPhil (Applied Economics) and PhD (Economics) degrees from the Professor, Gujarat Institute of Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. He is a recipient of the VKRV Rao Prize in Social Development Research, Ahmedabad Sciences (Economics) and had been empanelled as an ICCR Chair Professor in Economics. He has been a visiting research fellow/faculty at Tshwane University of Technology, South Africa; University of Insubria, Italy; International Institute of Social Studies, Netherlands; University of Manchester, UK; Institute of Developing Economies, Japan; CNRS-REGARDS, France; Maison des Sciences de lHomme, France; and University of Sussex, UK. With eight books, his research focuses on local and regional development; industrialization; informality; innovation; labour and basic infrastructure.

Vishal Sardeshpande Dr. Sardeshpande (PhD IIT, Bombay) has been associated with Thermax, A.T.E. Adjunct Associate Professor, Center enterprises, National Dairy Development Board, MNRE, and Forbes Marshall for past 20 for Technology Alternatives for Rural years. He has worked for Chemical, Engineering, Textile, Pulp & Paper, Glass, Foundry Areas (CTARA), IIT Bombay. and Steel industries and conducted more than 50 energy studies in these sectors. His specialties are product development, industrial energy studies and application engineering which he has applied for solar process heating, furnaces, steam systems, HVAC systems, compressed air systems, and agro processing. He is currently working on solar process heat applications in milk processing, industrial heating, community cooking; product development for solar roasting, jaggery and turmeric processing; productivity increase for poultry and poly-house farming sector.

V Premnath Dr. V Premnath is championing the cause of technology innovation within NCL, and Head, NCL Innovations, provides leadership for the Intellectual Property Group at NCL. He is also the Director of National Chemical Laboratory, Pune the Venture Center – a technology business incubator on NCL campus. He is scientist in [email protected] Polymer Science & Engineering Division at NCL with an interest in technology development for biomedical products, in which he helped in founding two startups. He holds a B.Tech. from IIT Bombay and Ph.D. from MIT, USA. He has also been a Chevening Technology Enterprise Fellow in London Business School and Cambridge University, UK. P Balachandra Dr. P Balachandra, a PhD from Indian Institute of Science, is an energy, environment and sustainability expert, and ranked among top 10 management researchers in India. He has about 30 years of experience as a faculty at Indian Institute of Science, and as a visiting expert at Harvard University-USA, UNDP-Bangkok, AIT-Bangkok and IGIDR-Mumbai. He has investigated 46 projects with funding from UNDP, European Commission, World Bank, SIDA, SANEI, RCUK, AIT, TERI, IGIDR, DST and ministries of government of India. Has authored/co-authored six books and published about 120 papers in International and National journals, conferences and edited books. Under his guidance six have completed their Ph.D. degrees and 10 more are working for their Ph.Ds. K P Karunakaran Prof. Karunakaran has over 30 years of professional experience, in the areas of CNC Professor, Department of Mechanical technology, Rapid Manufacturing and Computer Graphics. He was a consultant to Engineering, IIT, Bombay Mercedes-Benz Technology Centre, and has been associated with Fraunhofer institutes in [email protected] Stuttgart and Darmstadt since 1998 as a Humboldt Fellow. P J Mohanram P.J. Mohanram is an alumni of the IISc, having earned his ME degree in Machine Design in Senior Adviser, Indian Machine Tool 1969. He then joined HMT’s R&D division, and remained with HMT until he retired as the Manufacturing Association, Bengaluru MD of HMT International in 2004. During his tenure in HMT he developed new [email protected] generation CNC machine tools, and worked with BARC, DGOF and others in supplying advanced manufacturing and automation technologies. P Goswami Dr. Goswami’s early education had been in Assam, with M. Sc. in Physics from Gauhati Director, NISTADS University. He then completed his PhD and post-doctoral studies at IISc, followed by a New Delhi Visiting Professorship at IIT-Kanpur, then joined the CSIR-Centre for Mathematical [email protected] Modelling and Computer Simulation (C-MMACS) in 1993 with primary focus of research [email protected] on developing forecasting capabilities combined with basic understanding of the atmospheric and climate processes. There he headed the Climate and Environmental Modelling Programme. Dr. Goswami received the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize in earth and planetary sciences in 2001 for his fundamental contributions. He was an Invited Prof. (2001-2003) at ENS, France at LMD. Dr Goswami also acted as a Lead Author of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Assessment Report 5, Working Group I. He also initiated pioneering outreach activity in collaboration with Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre, Govt. Karnataka, to provide forecasts at hobli level (village cluster), with novel methodology for skill and user acceptance. Dr. Goswami has 76 high-impact SCI publications. He has also guided eight PhD students so far from different universities. He is a professor at the Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research, where he served as Dean, Mathematical and Information Science.
