(Balbis) Montagne from Bucal, Calamba, Laguna, Philippines A Freshwater Red Alga Compsopogon coeruleus (Balbis) Montagne from Bucal, Calamba, Laguna, Philippines Lizbeth Intong and Milagrosa R. Martinez-Goss Institute of Biological Sciences, CAS University of the Philippines at Los Baños, College, Laguna Intong L and Martinez-Goss MR. 2001. A freshwater red alga Compsopogon coeruleus (Balbis) Montagne from Bucal, Calamba, Laguna, Philippines, p. 159. In CB Santiago, ML Cuvin-Aralar and ZU Basiao (eds.). Conservation and Ecological Management of Philippine Lakes in Relation to Fisheries and Aquaculture. Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center, Aquaculture Department, Iloilo, Philippines; Philippine Council for Aquatic and Marine Research and Development, Los Baños, Laguna, Philippines; and Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, Quezon City, Philippines. 187 pp. (Abstract only) Abstract Compsopogon coeruleus (Balbis) Montagne was observed for the first time along the shallow, flowing portions of the spring that occurs naturally in Bucal, Calamba, Laguna. A year- round study of some habitat conditions in the sampling site was done. These conditions included air and water temperature (mean=28.5°C), pH (mean=6.5), orthophosphate (mean=0.26 ppm), ammonia- nitrogen (mean =0.52 ppm), depth of water (mean=12 cm), speed of current (mean=0.19 m/s) and light intensity (mean=770 foot candles). This alga seems to be a good indicator of organic pollution. A description of morpho-cytological characteristics in situ and in culture is given. Better growth was observed in a defined inorganic medium using different mixing waters (distilled, tap and filtered Bucal waters) over plain mixing waters. Germination of presumptive cortical cells into uniseriate filaments and monospore germination was observed after about 10 days of incubation in all media. .

  • Perception of Calambeños on the Communication Tool Used in Adopt-A-River Program
LPU Laguna Journal of Arts and Sciences Communication Research Vol. 2 No.1 September 2015 PERCEPTION OF CALAMBEÑOS ON THE COMMUNICATION TOOL USED IN ADOPT-A-RIVER PROGRAM Michelle Gonzales, Jazzer Mae Magpantay and Hannah Krizette Nuqui AB in Communication Abstract Communication at any rate serves to be a major factor why an individual gathers, understands, and learns new things that can be added to a person‘s cognition. While every individual has his own way to relate himself to the world through verbal and non-verbal communication, other dynamics such as media communications attend to the needs of the world to support hunger for information and to further involve the importance of knowing how communication can change lives and the environment. The perception of the Calambeños on the communication tools used in ―Adopt-a-River‖ Program, one of the projects of Calamba City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO), is basically a descriptive-quantitative research study that aims to prove the essentials of media communications particularly on the use of print media tools to inform the public about a specific environmental campaign. The materials used to promote the program are flyers, posters, and streamers. The main purpose of doing this study is to weigh the three communication materials in terms of their structures concerning the content, design, and clarity of the message through the help of selected Calambeños as the target respondents of the researchers in seven different barangays. The researchers prepared a self-made questionnaire for the respondents during the pre-test and also throughout the actual survey.

Berja Laguna College of Business and Arts ABSTRACT Despite the widespread laws and programs, the discontinuance rate of MSMEs in the Philippines was high. The main thrust of the study was determining the significance of the level of awareness on government support to the level of challenges encountered by MBE of Calamba City. “The Y-Model of MBE” was the output of the study. Descriptive-correlational method using a survey questionnaire was utilized and 134 respondents from Barangays of Seven (7), Bucal, and Paciano Rizal had participated. Regression Analysis revealed that there was a significant impact between the awareness level on technology transfer and marketing with the level of challenges encountered on product or product mix. Awareness of taxation and management also significantly influenced the challenges encountered in management and finance respectively. The challenges on government compliance were affected by the government support about technology transfer and marketing while challenges on marketing were not affected by any support. Keywords: Micro Business Enterprises (MBE), Level of Awareness, Level of Challenges, Government Support, Sustainable Business Model 1.0 INTRODUCTION While providing convenience to consumers and increasing their purchasing power, micro- business enterprises generate bulk employment at lower production costs and give pride to an entrepreneur as being a productive citizen. These great number of opportunities had made micro- business became popular.
