Paga4 Connecticut Dally Campus, Monday October 12,1961 Horticulture Club pleased with profits By Kevin Lawther Staff Writer Dave Skirkanich is a happy man these days. He's president of the UConn Horticulture Club, which sponsored the 35th Annual Horticulture Show Oct. 3 and 4th in the Ratcliffe Hicks Arena. The Club grossed $11,000 from the two day event. "But,'' he said, "out of that $11,000, we have $7,000 in debts. So the club really only made $4,000. And we have to put aside $1,500 for next year's show." With the $2,500 that's left, the Horticulture Club is planning to sponsor a bus trip to the Boston Flower Show some time in March. They also hold an awards banquet every year. The highlight- of the banquet is the presentation of the Elizabeth Hicks Award, given to the student who contributes the most to the annual Horticulture Show. "Personally, I think this year's show was better than past years," Skirkanich said. "We had plenty of staff on hand to answer questions. And the setup really complimented the theme."
