Almost 2,000 years ago St. Paul encouraged the church at Corinth to embody the spirit of giving by saying “…finish the work, so that your eager willingness to do it may be matched by your completion of it…” 2 Corinthians 8:11. Centuries later, the spirit of giving is still alive and well at Cardinal Spellman high School. Tanisha Gomez ’04, needed to complete a half credit required by NY State in order to earn her Cardinal Spellman diploma. Last year she contacted Assistant Principal, Sr. Veronica Wood, OSF ‘74, to see how she could proceed to finally receive her diploma after nearly a decade. Following the fulfillment of the necessary requirements, Tanisha received her diploma just in time to attend her 10 year reunion. Yet, what is even more noteworthy is what she plans to do now that she has successfully completed her Cardinal Spellman education. Ms. Gomez has a young son, Joshua, who has been diagnosed with autism. She works with him and with other parents of children with autism. She aims to be a support to them in an advocacy type of role. Tanisha was thrilled to tears to finally know she has Tanisha Gomez ’04 with Assistant Principal, completed this open chapter of her life.
