Craig Lockhart

Managing Director – Naval Marine Marine and Technology Division, Group

Craig joined Babcock in 1987 from the Ministry of Defence having been part of the Management Streaming Program. He progressed into the Nuclear Engineering environment completing his degree in Mechanical Engineering combined with Nuclear Engineering Training at the Royal Naval College, Greenwich after which he led a number of Nuclear Engineering projects within the Submarine operations at Dockyard.

In 1999 he was appointed Senior Development Engineer where he developed Integrated Site Safety Justifications to support the ongoing Nuclear Operations at Rosyth. During his time at Rosyth he led a number of high profile Collaborative Submarine Engineering projects which as part of a UK wide team they restored the Fleet back to full operational and safety capability.

In the early 2000’s Craig moved to HMNB Clyde to assume responsibility for the UK Submarine Deterrent Program on behalf of Babcock. He was appointed Managing Director of Babcock Marine Clyde and appointed as a Director of Babcock Marine.

In 2007, Craig added the Civil Nuclear Market to his portfolio establishing the consortia which bid and won the Dounreay Site Decommissioning project establishing a Partnering contract with the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority.

Having led a number of M&A streams for Babcock, his business experience saw him appointed to a number of non-executive roles with Scottish Engineering and the Aerospace and Defence Industries Board.

As Managing Director for the Warship Support Modernisation Contract at Clyde he established key Alliances such as the Strategic Weapons Support Alliance with Lockheed Martin and guided the Naval Base to its most efficient and effective position within the UK maritime environment he was appointed Chief Executive Officer of Babcock Pty Ltd, based in Adelaide, leading the expansion of Babcock’s business in the Pacific region.

Following a successful term in Australia, Craig returned to the UK and is now responsible for Babcock’s UK submarine and warships businesses at Rosyth, and Appledore together with the company’s naval base businesses at HM Naval Base Clyde and HM Naval Base Devonport as well as the DRDL Nuclear Licence holder.

He is also responsible for business transformation and the delivery of the company’s commitments under its long term partnering agreement with the UK Ministry of Defence.
