Victorian Bushfire Reconstruction and Recovery Authority Website: www.wewillrebuild.vic.gov.au Phone: 1800 240 667 The Victorian Bushfire Reconstruction and Recovery Authority was established to oversee and coordinate the largest recovery and rebuilding program has ever faced. The Authority is supporting fire-affected communities to rebuild and ensure that projects are delivered efficiently. It is also working to make sure that those affected by the fires have access to relevant government and non-government assistance.

Victorian Bushfire Appeal Fund Website: www.dhs.vic.gov.au/bushfireappeal Phone: 1800 180 213 The Victorian Bushfire Appeal Fund was established on February 8 2009 by the Victorian Government in partnership with the Federal Government and Australian Red Cross, to support individuals and communities in towns and suburbs affected by the 2009 Victorian bushfires. The Australian community generously donated an unprecedented $389 million to the Fund and most of this has now been distributed or allocated to individuals and families in need or provided towards community projects. More than 22,000 individual payments totalling $232 million are helping people recover and rebuild. More than $57 million has been committed to community recovery initiatives.

2009 Victorian Bushfires Royal Commission Website: www.royalcommission.vic.gov.au Phone: 1800 243 650 The 2009 Victorian Bushfires Royal Commission was established on 16 February 2009 to investigate the causes and responses to the bushfires which swept through parts of Victoria in late January and February 2009. The Commission delivered its Interim Report on 17 August 2009. The Final Report will be available from 31 July 2010.

p.4 Personal and Counselling Assistance

Victorian Bushfire Case Management Service www.dhs.vic.gov.au/em/bushfire-recovery Phone: 1800 050 400 The Victorian Bushfire Case Management Service has supported thousands of fire-affected people to get back on track and is still available to help. People can ring the case management telephone service, which is staffed by experienced case managers. The case managers talk to callers to learn what they are seeking help with, link them with the services they need, help them decide what to do next and check back to make sure things have gone smoothly. If more support is required, a local case manager is allocated to provide ongoing assistance. They can help bushfire-affected people to access assistance with matters including accommodation, finance, employment, education, counselling, health, legal services and emotional support. The service is available to all bushfire-affected people whether you are a past client or are asking for support for the first time.

Victorian Bushfire Accommodation Line Phone: 1800 006 468 The Department of Human Services has assisted people who lost their homes to find temporary accommodation while homes and communities are rebuilt. A range of services and supports have been made available. DHS is now helping people to move to permanent housing. To find out more about temporary accommodation and permanent housing assistance, talk to your housing worker or case manager, or ring the Victorian Bushfire Accommodation Line.

p.5 Australian Centre for Grief and Bereavement (ACGB) Website: www.grief.org.au Phone: 9265 2100 The Australian Centre for Grief and Bereavement (ACGB) has been actively involved in responding to those affected by the bushfires. The ACGB provides a statewide specialist bereavement counselling and support service for individuals, children and families who need assistance following the death of someone close to them. A dedicated web page has been established for those who lost someone close to them in the fires which provides information on grief and bereavement organisations; telephone support services; compassion and bereavement payments; general information and resources including a range of useful websites. With support from the Victorian Bushfire Appeal Fund, ACGB has been able to provide a range of services such as adult support groups and support groups for children (Kids Grieve Too – KG2). The Department of Health has also provided funding for four part-time Bushfire Specialist Bereavement Counsellors located in Broadford, Eltham, Kyneton and Traralgon. These counsellors provide outreach counselling services. With further support from VBAF, these services have been extended to June 2013. If you have lost someone close to you and are seeking grief and bereavement support or information, please contact ACGB.

Bushfire Psychological Counselling Voucher Program Website: www.dhs.vic.gov.au/bushfireappeal/Fund-Payments/support-payments/ psychological-support-package Phone: 1800 180 213 The Program, funded through a $3.5 million gift from the Victorian Bushfire Appeal Fund, assists people directly affected by the 2009 Victorian bushfires to access additional psychological counselling support. The program provides six counselling sessions to each individual (including dependant children over five years of age) that can be used to see an eligible counsellor of their own choice, and in their own time. Additional vouchers are available for parents who have used their own vouchers for children under five. Vouchers can be used for individual, couple and family counselling. There is no cash involved in this process and applicants will not have to pay any co-payment to the counsellor. The program started on 10 August 2009 and will run until 10 August 2011. Vouchers can be used anytime during this period. p.6 Other Key Contacts – Personal and Counselling Assistance

Following the fires, material aid shopfronts were set up across bushfire-affected areas to provide people with essential items they may need. These items were donated by individuals and businesses in the days and weeks following the fires. Most of the items have now been distributed to fire-affected people and families and there is only a small amount of second-hand clothing, toiletries and books remaining. People with blue referral cards are able to access the remaining material aid from any of the locations listed below.
