3. FUTURE FIT The meeting opened with an update on Future Fit by Samantha Turner, Senior Communications and Engagement Officer for Future Fit.

Future Fit is not just about A&E but about meeting the health needs of & Wrekin and for future generations to benefit. The whole range of clinicians is involved.

At present we have one hospital across two sites which is a big problem. Pressure is increasing on services due to people living longer. There are now more older people than other age ranges. Long-term conditions need to be managed. Demand is higher, there are changes in technology and economical challenges. More people are going to hospital when they could have gone to a GP or Pharmacy.

It is important to get it right, rebuild staff morale with the right level of staffing and experience. Improvements are needed to buildings and there are often problems accessing patients’ records.

Aims:  To keep people at home as much as possible  Power for clinicians and patients to make decisions  Sustainability  New ways of working  Better use of resources

It is envisaged there will be one Emergency Centre covering Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin with an Urgent Care Centre next door. Rural areas will be served by a network of Urgent Care Centres in the main towns.

The preferred option for the siting of the Emergency Centre will be announced and will then go to public consultation, probably in December. It is likely this will be a 3-4 months process. It is expected that the final decision will be announced next Summer.

Marion Law said that there has been a lot of negative publicity in the local press and we should tell people it is not just about emergency care.

Samantha was thanked for her very informative talk.

Dr Philip Leigh and Sheila MacLucas, Practice Business Manager, joined the meeting.

4. MINUTES OF THE PREVIOUS MEETING The minutes of the meeting held on Monday, 25th July, 2016 were approved.

5. MATTERS ARISING Boots know they are being monitored and that they are losing customers to Pharmacy2U. Marilyn Morton said she took a prescription in to Boots last Wednesday and was told it would not be ready until next Wednesday. Jon Bernardes has signed up with Pharmacy2U and has had excellent service. Chris Raine is concerned we may lose Boots if they continue to lose customers. It was decided to invite the Boots Pharmacist to one of our meetings.

6. PRACTICE UPDATE The new GP Partner joined the Practice on 22nd August.

A recruitment campaign has been undertaken for Reception and Admin staff with little success.

The result of the bid for the new Medical Centre is still awaited. The Practice continues to have meetings with David Evans, CCG Chief Executive, Matrix and a Business Consultant to help with the business case.

7. PATIENT FEEDBACK Shropshire CCG – Potential Budget Cuts: In reply to Tim Day, Dr Leigh felt that the items the CCG are looking at will not solve the £15 million deficit and they will have to go deeper. Although Shropshire is not as badly affected as some regions, it will, inevitably, have some effect. Tim said we should be aware of this issue as it takes effect.

On-line Appointments System: Tim Day commented that ‘Medical History’ has disappeared. Sheila M said you now have to apply for it and a doctor has to approve. There are forms at the Surgery.

8. SOCIAL MEDIA As this is now very popular, especially with younger people, Marion has arranged for special items or events to be put on the Shifnal Forward Facebook page. Positive feedback has been received about the new GP Partner.

9. HEALTH INFORMATION DAY Twenty definite acceptances have been received to date from organisations wishing to take part. The Community & Care Co-ordinator will be representing the Practice.

The Shifnal Co-op are providing refreshments. The Practice have agreed to put in funding. Marion said volunteers will be needed to distribute posters. This is also an opportunity to give information about the Patient Group. The Town Council have agreed to print the posters and Paul Jones has kindly offered to laminate them. Jeff Harris has contacted Prostate Cancer UK and they have sent leaflets, posters, etc.
