Last.fm Wants to Become the Web's MTV 10 May 2007 Online social music site Last.fm is moving into the video realm, adding music videos with a goal of providing every video ever made. The site, which provides music recommendations based on user preferences, will be leveraging its music label relationships to bring artist video content to members. Users who currently sign up at Last.fm site provide it with the names of their favorite artists and the site then generates streaming music recommendations based on those entries. A plug- in also lets the site determine which music users actually play. Listeners then vote on whether they love or hate those recommendations, so that Last.fm has a better idea of what that user might enjoy. Last.fm intends to use the same model for music video content in order to create personalized video channels. The site promises higher quality than that of YouTube, with audio encoded at 128 Kbits/s on Last.fm compared to YouTube's 64 Kbits/s. Last.fm boasts partnerships with major labels like The EMI Group and Warner Music Group in addition to approximately 20,000 independent labels like Ninja Tune, Nettwerk Music Group, Domino, Warp, Atlantic and Mute. The intent is to have every music video ever made available on the site, "from the latest hits to underground obscurities to classics from the past," according to Last.fm. In November of last year, Last.fm launched a system that provides suggestions on upcoming performances based on user location and taste in music. -

BBC Global News India Private Limited (Channel- BBC World News) At the outset, we would like to express our gratitude towards Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (henceforth “TRAI”) for bringing out a comprehensive consultation paper on the subject of tariff. We appreciate the efforts made by TRAI in formulating a comprehensive tariff order in this regard. We would like to offer our comments to the proposed Telecommunication (Broadcasting and Cable Services) (Eight) (Addressable Systems) Tariff Order, 2016 as under- Pricing of the channel The ceiling on maximum retail price for the pay television channels in news and current affairs genre has been kept at Rs. 5/-. We are of considered view that while determining the ceiling on maximum retail price of a particular genre, the current level of effective price of the channels should also be taken into account. Considering the packaging of pay channels in bouquets on one hand and making them a viable option on a-la-carte basis for subscribers on the other hand, the broadcasters will be required to price their channels in such a way so as to achieve reach and sustain revenues. The broadcasters of channels like us which cater to a niche audience will be more affected by this. We are of opinion that the price of channel is mainly driven by following three attributes- (i) Choice of consumer- Price of any channel in mainly influenced by the demand of consumer for that particular channel and its content. In case we want to promote the a- ala-carte model of offering channels to the consumers, there is a need to determine the most attractive price for a particular channel for the subscriber. -

10.21.2016 AFP -SERVICES SELECTED TO PROVIDE COVERAGE OF THE MTV AFRICA MUSIC AWARDS AFP-SERVICES IS PROUD TO HAVE BEEN SELECTED AS THE EXCLUSIVE PHOTO PROVIDER FOR COVERAGE OF THE MTV AFRICA MUSIC AWARDS JOHANNESBURG 2016 AS WELL AS THE PROVIDER FOR VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS FOR THE INTERNATIONAL BROADCAST MARKET. The MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMA), Africa’s biggest celebration of contemporary music, culture and achievement, kicks off at the Ticketpro Dome, Johannesburg, South Africa on 22 October 2016. The annual awards show, now in its sixth edition, is taking place in the city of Johannesburg for the first time ever. The MAMA, as it is affectionately known, highlights the “gold standard” in contemporary music, creativity and achievement across the continent. The MAMA will air live on MTV and MTV Base across Africa at 21:00 CAT on 22 October. Lighting up the MAMA stage on 22 October will be African stars Davido (Nigeria), C4 Pedro (Angola), Sauti Sol (Kenya), Diamond (Tanzania), Emtee (South Africa), Kwesta (South Africa), Patoranking (Nigeria); Alikiba (Tanzania), Babes Wodumo (South Africa), Cassper Nyovest (South Africa), Nasty C(South Africa), Ycee (Nigeria) and Yemi Alade (Nigeria), while US hip hop star Future (nominee for Best International) will also be on site. Many more African artists remain to be announced. The definitive annual celebration of African and international talent and achievement, MAMA 2016 recognises and rewards musicians and achievers in 18 categories who have made the most impact on African contemporary music and culture over the previous year. Collection Profile Robert Abel & Associates Co-founder of the multiple Clio-winning production firm, Robert Abel & Associates (RA&A), commercial director and producer Robert Abel (1937-2001) is noted as a COLLECTION central figure in the development of computer-generated visual effects. During their most prolific period, RA&A's unique design aesthetic and innovative graphics were seemingly ubiquitous across the electronic media landscape, featured in highly stylized television advertisements (7UP’s “Bubbles” campaign) and the feature films The Andromeda Strain (1971) and Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979). A native of Cleveland, Ohio, Abel began his UCLA studies in 1958, obtaining dual bachelor degrees in the Department of Theater’s film division and School of Design. Upon graduation, Abel worked under the tutelage of designer John Whitney, who pioneered the use of computer animation with the short film Catalog (1961) and the title sequence for Vertigo (1958) (in collaboration with Saul Bass). Abel would leave Whitney’s employ in the mid-1960s to direct and produce documentary projects that included Sophia: A Self Portrait (1968), Making of the President (1969) and Elvis on Tour (1972). In 1971 Abel formed a partnership with visual effects artist Con Pederson to launch the Hollywood-based production company Robert Abel & Associates, whose primary focus was the creative utilization of computer-aided photographic effects in television commercials and on-air television promotion. As the decade came to a close, RA&A would garner honors from the International Broadcasting Awards and Broadcast Promotion Association for their work with CBS (“Campaign ‘76”), Kawasaki (“The Ultimate Trip”) and a series of iconic Levis Strauss Co. -
