98five Fusion Friday Information and FAQ Fusion Friday is a segment aired on the 98five Drive show with Mel and Jeziel around 5pm each Friday. The idea is to have local DJs produce a “pump-up mashup” of songs to get the listeners excited for the weekend. What sort of mix should it be? The intent of the mix is to get the listener pumped up for the weekend, so ideally it should be upbeat and energetic. Additionally, the mix needs to cater to our target audience (mid- 30’s, family oriented), so it doesn’t need to be of modern nightclub quality or style. How long should the mix be? Each mix needs to be under 5 minutes in length. If it’s too long the listener may lose interest, and it can affect the timing for the rest of the hours content. How many songs should I include? While there’s no set minimum or maximum number of songs, you should aim to have at least three recognisable song portions in each mix for good variety. Can I use any song? Attached to this document is a list of all the songs in our “Party music” and “Favourites” categories (in no particular order). While this list is by no means exhaustive, it will give you a large range of songs to choose from. You can include songs not on the list, though there are some important criteria to remember. 1. The portion of the song you include must not contain any sexual, drug or alcohol references, swearing, or questionable material. 2. The song must have some form of appeal to our target audience (mid-30’s, family oriented). Additionally, as a condition of our licence, we must play a certain number of Christian songs per hour. To achieve this, each mix needs to contain at least one Christian song. A list of options is included at the end of this document, but feel free to choose your own if you know a banger. You can edit songs however you see fit, whether its pitch or tempo shifting, looping, or EQing. Library Report (inc.     BIG DADDY'S TWENTY GREATEST ONE HIT WONDERS "Whew! I'm thankful this list and topic are over. While I greatly appreciate the attention and passion you all brought to it, it also came with so much anger from some. I think the SPIRIT of the fun in it all got lost. So here's what happened. ANY final 20 selection that was followed with a hit that crawled into the top 40, even if 90% of music lovers can't recall that second hit today, did not make the cut. EXAMPLE? Billy Paul's ME AND MRS. JONES and THANK YOU FOR SAVING MY LIFE. EXAMPLE? An amazing track like Fountain's of Wayne's STACY'S MOM gets excluded because I own every note that band has ever recorded. So to me, they were so much more than the one hit that charted and there are other examples of this as well. While I don't own EVERY album FREE ever recorded, to me they are so much more than ALL RIGHT NOW. Mountain's MISSISSIPPI QUEEN is another example of this. EXAMPLE? The Contours score big time with DO YOU LOVE ME. Although FIRST I LOOK AT THE PURSE technically didn't chart Top 40 at the time it came out, PURSE is very well known today, so it's difficult to look at them as a one hit wonder. EXAMPLE? I only counted AMERICAN chart success. THE EASYBEATS had many other Australian hits, but FRIDAY ON MY MIND is their only USA chart success. So it made it.
