Guam has become a popular wedding destination for tourists. Many hotels have built chapels to accommodate the growing popularity of a western-style wedding.

This is the fourth report published by the Guam Visitors Bureau that provides an overview of Guam’s wedding industry. Compilation was the responsibility of Alicia Rosa Borja, University of Guam Intern, along with the supervision of Debi Basa Phillips, Administrator, Research & Evaluation, GVB.

Information provided by the companies that participated refl ect the most current information and is presented as submitted to the Guam Visitors Bureau.

Whether you are planning a once in a lifetime experience for your wedding and , or celebrating an anniversary or second honeymoon, Guam offers the magic to make lifetime memories. Guam is the perfect destination for a romantic get-away that you will never forget.

Guam’s natural beauty provides a rich backdrop to romance. The island’s hotels, resorts, restaurants and entertainment facilities are perfect venues to share this special occasion with the family and friends. The island has become a very popular wedding and honeymoon destination for couples from all over Asia in recent years and there are several companies offering a full range of wedding services. Whether it is the simplest of ceremonies or the most elaborate of affairs with a cast of hundreds, styled settings, stretch limousines and lavish receptions - no expenses spared - Guam can make it happen for you.

4 How to Get Married In Guam

Many couples choose to have a simple legal marriage at home then bring their friends and relatives to Guam for the full ceremony. Some of the major hotels have elaborate chapels, some in European styles and others that celebrate Guam’s unique “island style”.

With just a few days notice, a couple can be legally married in Guam, USA and hold a genuine American marriage certifi cate. Couples can make the arrangements themselves but it would be better to have one of Guam’s wedding service companies make the arrangements.

Applicants must complete out a application form (see Appendix A) at the Offi ce of Vital Statistics located at the fi rst fl oor of the Department of Public Health and Social Services and submit it together with their birth certifi cate, passport and other relevant documents (see Appendix C). Applicants can request to have the mandatory fi ve (5) day waiting period waived by completing an affi davit for “Good Cause Shown, “ which can be obtained at the Offi ce of Vital Statistics (see Appendix D).

5 How to Get Married In Guam

The marriage ceremony can be performed by any of the following:

Governor of Guam or Appointed Substitute Speaker of the Guam Legislature or Appointed Designee Judges of the Supreme Court or Superior Court Ordained Clergyman or Priest Director or Deputy Director of the Department of Administration Director of Revenue and Taxation Director of Public Health and Social Services

Once the marriage ceremony has been performed, celebrants must take their documents to the Offi ce of Vital Statistics located at the fi rst fl oor of the Department of Public Health and Social Services to obtain their marriage certifi cate.

The procedures and the Guam marriage application are included at the end of this report.

Chef Quenga has an interactive venue and can prepare custom menus for your . We can also arrange for Pastoral services here on the premises. So you can have your wedding and reception all in one location. Our wedding planner can arrange and take care of every detail so that the celebration is most memorable. We can accommodate a minimum of 10 people and can cater to up to 100 people.

Wedding packages are pre-arranged with the couple and their families. Each venue is a unique custom package individualized to fi t their needs. The quantity of people that will attend, the couples desires and budget will determine the venue. We can arrange small intimate settings to include the wedding ceremony followed by just a champagne toast and wedding cake afterwards. Or a simple setting with appetizers and cocktails. For a more formal setting we suggest following the ceremony by leading into a 5 course wine dinner. The thing that is unique to the Old Hagatna Grill is that nothing is fi xed we cater to the individuals needs and with enough prior notice we can make their wedding and reception the most memorable evening a couple can cherish.
