With cash prizes totaling more than $65,000, it boasts the largest total prize purse in the sport.

One of the most exciting aspects of the UnitedHealthcare US OPEN Racquetball Championships is the “made-for-TV” portable racquetball court, which will be used for all feature matches. The unique construction of the court allows for viewing through all four walls in a stadium seating configuration for more than 1,000 spectators. From the quarterfinals on, all men’s and women’s pro matches will take place on the stadium court. Dramatic player introductions complete with laser light shows and booming music will treat fans to a total entertainment experience.

In addition to the marquee professional divisions, the US OPEN Rac- quetball Championships offers more than 80 USA Racquetball (USAR) sanctioned divisions separated by age and skill. UnitedHealthcare The US OPEN Racquetball Championships announced in June 2012 that UnitedHealthcare will serve as the title sponsor for the US OPEN Rac- quetball Championships. The agreement partners racquetball’s largest and most prestigious annual tournament with one of the nation’s largest health and well-being companies.

www.classicproracquetball.com THE US OPEN IS CLOUSE’S HOUSE! As the four-time defending champion of the US OPEN’s Men’s 40 & Over Division, Woody Clouse (Denver, Colorado) is a heavy favorite to win the title yet again in 2013. Born in Eritera, Africa, Clouse was a Top 5 player on the IRT for many years and is the only player to win National Cham- pionships in both the United States and Canada. Woody has competeted for the US National Team on several occasions winning Gold Medals in singles and doubles. While the title is Woody’s to lose, keep an eye on challegers Jimmy Lowe, Doug Ganim, Cliff Swain and last year’s finalist Keith Minor. 2013 US OPEN RACQUETBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS - MEDIA GUIDE 31 US OPEN Racquetball Championships Returns to Minneapolis The World’s Fastest Sport comes back to the Twin Cities this October More than 800 of the world’s top professional and amateur racquetball players will descend on Minneapolis once again this October 2-6 for the 2013 UnitedHealthcare US OPEN Racquetball Championships, the world’s largest and most prestigious racquetball tournament. After 14 years in Memphis, Tenn., the UnitedHealthcare US OPEN Rac- quetball Championships moved to Minneapolis in 2010 with great success. The region has seen more than $10 million in economic impact during the past three years and that number is expected to increase as an estimated 3,000 spectators will join the 800 players in the Twin Cities for the week- long event. Of the entrants in the tournament, more than 100 are expected to be players from the State of Minnesota. With ball speeds reaching 180 miles per hour, racquetball is truly the world’s fastest sport! A stunning all-glass portable court will be brought piece-by-piece into Life Time Fitness Target Center in Downtown Minne- apolis and set-up in a one-of-a-kind racquetball stadium. The US OPEN partners with two prominent Minnesota-based companies in UnitedHealthcare and Life Time Fitness to host the tournament. The profes- sional divisions are contested at Life Time Fitness Target Center, while the amateur divisions are played among Life Time Fitness St. Louis Park and the Minneapolis Life Time Athletic Club. Defending his championship in the Men’s Professional Division will be eight-time US OPEN Champion Kane Waselenchuk (Edmonton, Canada). Kane owns a pair of US OPEN win streaks, the first from 2003 – 2005 and his current streak from 2008 – 2013. Since January 2009, Waselenchuk has won 137 matches in a row on the International Racquetball Tour. Mexico’s Paola Longoria is a three-time and the defending champion in the Women’s Professional Division. Longoria was the youngest player in the history of the sport to win a US OPEN with her first title in 2009. In addition to winning the UnitedHealthcare US OPEN the past two years, Paola has won 11 Gold Medals for her country while playing in international competi- tions. The 2013 UnitedHealthcare US OPEN will also pay special tribute to racquetball legend Charlie Brumfield. Brumfield dominated the sport in the 1970s winning four national championships and will be honored this year with racquetball’s Lifetime Achievement Award. Many of the sport’s great- est players including Bud Muehleisen, Randy Stafford, Marty Hogan, Dave Peck, Ruben Gonzalez, Jerry Hilecher and Steve Keely will be in Minne- apolis for this great celebration of the game.
