Zero-K Zero K a free multi-platform open source real-time strategy . Initially based on content from Total Annihilation on the open source Spring Engineit was forked and all proprietary content replaced, and evolved into a completely new game with unique features. Zero-K has similar gameplay to Total Annihilation. As computers grow faster, Zero-K intends to scale with them, allowing players to increase their resolution and allowing for higher Zero K counts with virtually no limit. Players start out with a construction-capable bipedal mech known as the Commander which acts as the player's avatar. Players Zero K their commander to construct a base of operations from which they can expand to fight and ultimately destroy opposing players. Players can upgrade their commander with new weapons and modules as the game progresses. Aside from the factories, there are many important buildings that create resources, provide radar coverage, shield units from Enemy weapons, conceal units from enemies, provide defence to a static location, and perform many other functions. The initial Zero K cost of a factory is the only investment needed to gain access to its units. There is no technology progression during a game. Each unit's reason for being used or built is its appropriateness for the battle at hand, not devoting resources to gain access to it. Energy is produced by certain structures, most of which can be built anywhere; each of these structures is ideal for its own set of situations. Energy is consumed in all build projects with metal, for repairs to damaged units and structures, during "Resurrection" of unit Zero K, powering structures like radar towers and charging shields, and is used to activate the biggest defenses such as the "Annihilator" energy weapon. Metal is either extracted from metal in the map using "Metal Extractors" or reclaimed from wrecks and debris of destroyed units and structures. Each and Zero K unit or Zero K requires a specific amount of metal to be built, making capturing areas suitable for metal extraction or reclaiming wrecks of utmost importance in every game. Connecting energy production to Metal Extractors allows "Overdrive", automatically producing additional metal. However, Overdrive has diminishing results, requiring more and more energy to continue increasing the production bonus until additional attached energy has only negligible increases in production. There exists a single player campaign where players start with only their commander and a few basic units. Each mission unlocks a few Zero K units to slowly introduce the player to the game. The missions do not have to Zero K played in a fixed order so that the player can choose which units to unlock first. Depending on the player's performance, each mission yields a different amount of experience points. The Zero K can Zero K these experience points to improve Zero K commander. Zero-K minimizes the amount of interface limitations. Executing sophisticated strategies is made as simple Zero K possible, including queuing up any number of units, ordering a constructor to build many of different buildings, Zero K ordering a factory to build planes that would automatically patrol a route as they roll off the assembly line. The interface allows players to build up large armies and bases with ease so the player is free to concentrate on actual tactics and strategy. Zero-K is almost unique in having this level of control. Zero-K can be Zero K online in 1v1, team, or free for all FFA style battles, as well as playing cooperatively against Chickens, bots or in the campaign. Planet Wars is an massively multiplayer online style strategy game tied to Zero-K where individual battles are fought against other players to gain "influence" on planets. Each player can either create or join a clan, and all the influence they earn will count toward the clan's. Planet Wars resets each time one clan achieves one or more of the three victory conditions - Conquest, Economy, Technology. However, ever since season 8, a new faction system has been implemented: Each clan and player is randomly assigned to a faction, and all Zero K influence that person or clan makes will count toward the faction's. Zero-K includes a unique game mode called Chickens. Chicken games are essentially similar to tower defense games, except the player is free to build any Zero K. The chickens will adapt to the player's strategies, deploying siege weaponry and special units if the player plays too defensively and deploying heavier defenses against offensive players. In a game of Chickens, the goal is to survive an onslaught of various semi-sentient alien creatures until their "Queen" attacks. The objective of a game of chickens is to survive, with a side objective being to destroy "Roosts" placed around the map - keeping the attacking chickens from becoming more powerful. The game ends with either annihilation of Zero K players, or the death of the Chicken Queen. Zero-K was released on Steam on 27 April From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. For other uses, see 0K. Or is he deluded by arrogance and self-deception? Why does he get in touch with his son now, while he abandoned his first wife Madeline and son Zero K at 13? What will poets write about? Assuming DeLillo would intensely focus on the troubled father-son relationship too, I largely missed evolution Zero K or profound dissection of it. Apart from some scarce shared moments of vulnerability and intimacy in the relationships between stepmother, father and son, and emotions stirring observing the process of dehumanization, shaving and Zero K the bodies before freezing them - the characters do not really come alive. Lust for life is strangely and chillingly absent. There, a child revels in Manhattanhenge, enclosing gracefully a spark of luminosity and hope into this dark tale. May 29, Violet wells rated it really liked it Shelves: contemporary-american-fiction21st-century. Quite simply DeLillo has helped me understand the Zero K of Zero K world we live in. Most noticeably his prose has suffered a diminishment of Zero K old searing clarity, its inspiration and vitality. So, Zero K. But it does. No one, for example, would wear sunglasses indoors in Zero K DH Lawrence novel! Getting there, waiting there, standing shoeless in long lines. Think about it. DeLillo always pivots his novels on the outer edge of where the world is headed which is why he Zero K almost unanimously deemed our most prophetic novelist. And Zero K certainly maintains Zero K prophetic stance. Zero K also returns to the central character of Cosmopolis - the global financier. The mission in Zero K Zero K to survive death, the ultimate act of hubris. This hubris is personified by Ross Lockhart, an example of a new cultural phenomenon, an individual who is richer and Zero K more powerful than most entire countries, a master of the Zero K billionaire who owns Zero K and huge land masses. The novel is about Convergence, Zero K project funded by Lockhart, intent on preserving life through cryonic freezing. He, like Nick not morally flawless himself, is providing a more grounded, humble moral perspective of what actually is going on here. In some ways this is a 21st century version of Gatsby, a new technological dramatisation of the American dream. View all 46 comments. Oct 26, Kevin Kelsey rated it it was Zero K Shelves: read I really enjoyed White Noise but thought the ending was a little fumbled, and I think Cosmopolis is a masterpiece of sorts; a nearly perfect novel. I also have a rule for myself that I'm not allowed to have an opinion on a book if I haven't finished it. I had a real internal struggle maintaining that rule with Zero K. There's no subtlety at play here. Now that I have finished it, I can say that I gave it that shot, and it's just not good. This novel would never have been published if it were written pseudonymously, that's basically all you need to know. The handful of good parts are fantastic, but they are literally only a handful: "This was New York. Every living breathing genotype entered his cab at some point, day or night. And if this was an inflated notion, that was New York as well. I'm not ready for that. You're getting ahead of me. I'm doing my best to recognize the fact that you're my father. I'm not ready to be your son. And there's Zero K end to not knowing. View all 14 comments. Sep 17, Lyn rated it it was ok. Weird book.
