For this Sporting Summer Festival’s 40th anniversary special edition, Monte-Carlo SBM and its artistic director Jean- René Palacio, have created an exclusive concert with Marcus Miller and Jeff Beck, for the first time together on stage. Marcus Miller, named « UNESCO Artist for peace » and spokesman for the « Slave Route » project, is not only an extra- ordinary musician, but also a remarkable composer and producer. The superb album « Tutu », composed and produced for Miles Davis in 1986 launched him to worldwide fame. He then began to walk in his spiritual fathers’ footsteps, Miles as a reflection for the starting block he represented to young Herbie Hancock and John McLaughlin... and Quincy Jones as a producer. Jeff Beck, regarded as the « greatest among the greatest » rock , was one of three gifted musicians who played in The Yardbirds, with and . Since his early days, he managed to create his own unique sounds and style that garnered the admiration of his peers and public adulation. He has shared the stage with the greatest, inclu- ding jazz players such as John McLaughlin, Stanley Clarke, Herbie Hancock, Stevie Wonder... He was one of the first electric guitarists, master of vibrato, who dared to borrow it from the bluesmen, creating an exceptional sound in rock, pop and jazz alike… The special friendship uniting Marcus Miller and Monaco have, in a few years and a few concerts at the Monte-Carlo’s Opera Garnier enabled the creation of such a programme.
