Announcing the 80th Anniversary Celebration of the Central Electric Railfans’ Association Join us in celebrating CERA’s 80th year! To commemorate the event, CERA will hold a special banquet and program along with fantrips to two local railway museums. Come on out and ride an interurban on a line that has been in continuous electric operation since 1907 on the East Troy Electric Railroad. Enjoy rides on wood Chicago “L” equipment at the Illinois Railway Museum. We will also operate charter trips using Chicago Aurora and Elgin and North Shore Line cars. Be sure to attend and enjoy a weekend of memories and camaraderie. Friday, September 28, 2018 80th Anniversary Banquet and Program* Join with CERA members and other rail enthusiasts for our 80th anniversary banquet at the Loop River Room at the University Center (CERA’s regular meeting venue). 1730- 80th Anniversary Banquet. Casual 1900 attire is welcome. There will be a cash bar and a buffet-style dinner featuring a selection of Southern Italian-style dishes. 1900- Program: “Early Railfan Excursions in 2130 Southern California: Late 1930s to Early 1940s” presented by Harvey Laner. Mr. Laner will show films of various early southern California railfan excursions over the Pacific Electric and other roads. If you’ve seen Mr. Laner’s other CERA Raymond DeGroote programs, you’ll know this is a “can’t miss” event. Seating is limited to 80 persons. Because of the lack of space, only those * purchasing banquet tickets will be permitted to attend the evening’s program. Saturday, September 29, 2018 East Troy Electric Railroad CERA Inspection Trip #213 Take a journey back in time aboard Sheboygan Light Power and Railway Company No. 26, a 1908 Cincinnati Car Company product lovingly restored to operation. We will also ride South Shore Line No. 33, restored to its 1920s era appearance. 1100 Depart CTA Blue Line “L” station at Cumberland Avenue via charter bus.* Board at curb near Greyhound station. John Nicholson CERA personnel will be there to assist. Parking is available at Cumberland Avenue at a multi-level garage 1700 Leave East Troy Electric Railroad. (*Optional participation at additional cost) Sunday, September 30, 2018 Illinois Railway Museum CERA Inspection Trip #214 Come along for a day where we remember and ride the best of Chicago traction at the Illinois Railway Museum. All CERA charter trips will originate from the 50th Avenue “L” station. We are scheduled to ride on Northwestern Elevated Railroad No. 24, a CA&E wood train (weather permitting—otherwise a CA&E steel train will be used), and a North Shore Line train. No specific meal stops are scheduled, but tour members can obtain refreshments at the museum. 1130 Depart CTA Blue Line Cumberland Avenue station via charter bus.* 1230 Arrive at Illinois Railway Museum, Union, Illinois.
