CEREMONIES AND OBSERVANCES
The Board of Education recognizes the diversity of backgrounds of individual students and families attending the Pulaski Community School District. It is our policy to respect the values and ideals of all persons regardless of their background.
In this context, the Board allows that traditional patriotic days and other holidays may be referenced in the curriculum and school observances. If they conflict with the student's background or values, the student will not be required to engage in that phase of the curriculum or observance. In these instances, involved staff will offer alternative activities to the student. An attempt will be made to minimize the exposure of a student who requests alternative activities. The student or parents may make these requests for alternative activities.
All building administrators will include this policy in student handbooks.
A list of patriotic days and holidays that might be a part of the school curriculum or observances include but are not limited to:
Labor Day Halloween Thanksgiving Chanukah Christmas Valentine's Day St. Patrick's Day Mother's Day Easter
Special observance days specified by Wisconsin Statutes should also be included in the list. These are listed herein. Others that may be designated by the legislature or governor in the future also will be appropriately observed.
