Students Advance to the First Round Students Advance to the First Round The University of the West Indies has completed the Qualifying Round of the 2015 Jamaican Mathematical Olympiad. A total of 1,856 students entered this round, which began on November 11, 2014. These students came from 70 high schools across Jamaica. After assessing the papers, the Department of Mathematics has determined that 1422 students are qualified for the First Round. This round will be held on January 17, 2015, at the University of the West Indies, Mona Campus. In order to accommodate the large number of students in this year’s competition, the Department of Mathematics will conduct this examination in two sessions. The first session will be held from 9:30 am to 10:45 am, and the second one will be held from 12:30 pm to 1:45 pm. In each session, students in Grades 7 and 8 should report to the Old Library and students in Grades 9, 10, and 11 should report to the Assembly Hall. The following information is provided for those students who have qualified for the First Round examination.. 1. Students should enter campus through the Post Office Gate. For the Old Library, turn right at the first intersection. For the Assembly Hall, turn left at the first intersection and continue to the Ring Road. The Assembly Hall is just ahead. 2. Students should bring pens for writing and, if they choose, white-out or a similar substance. Students will not need writing paper, calculators, geometry sets, or any other materials. 3. There will be two question papers administered, one for students in Grades 7 and 8 and one for students in Grades 9, 10, and 11. Each paper will consist of 4 multiple-choice questions and 6 written-answer questions. The time allowed will be 75 minutes. A list indicating which session students are assigned to is on the next page. A list of the invited student begins on the following page.
