My name is Fred Biletnikoff. I was privileged to play 14 years for the Oakland Raiders of the National Football League as an all-pro wide receiver. I was named MVP of Super Bowl XI, in 1988 I was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame and in 1994 the Biletnikoff Award was introduced and is given to the best collegiate wide receiver each year. I am humbled that my past accomplishments are still recognized today and I am so grateful for the opportunities I’ve had over the years.
Unfortunately, in early 1999, I lost my 20-year old daughter, Tracey, to domestic violence. It was Tracey’s hope to provide a place for at-risk young women to receive the help and support they so desperately need. Devastated though we were over Tracey’s untimely death, my wife, Angela, and I decided to dedicate our lives to making Tracey’s hope a reality. Angela and I founded the Biletnikoff Foundation in 1999. We partnered with Koinonia Home for Teens, which operates a residential therapeutic program to provide for the needs of abused and high-risk teens. One of their houses in Loomis, California, was in disrepair and in need of major renovations. It was severely outdated, cramped and difficult to maintain. So, the Biletnikoff Foundation went to work. With the help, love and support of donors like you, we raised enough funds to create a state-of-the-art facility where the girls have the space to live and thrive—in June of 2016, the doors opened to Tracey’s Place of Hope.
But our work is far from over—Phase II of the renovation: the Biletnikoff Center for Hope! Plans have been drawn up to create an on-site counseling and open-use facility. This will be a multi-use space for one-on-one and group counseling which is vital to the teens’ recovery from domestic violence, drug and alcohol abuse and human trafficking. This center will give specialized counselors the space they need to assist and guide them on their way to becoming thriving citizens of the community. Most of our teens come to Tracey’s Place of Hope with little or no hope at all, but when given the chance, they become strong and independent with skills they need to live a full life with hope for the future.
