In 2012, the Aggies battled injuries and inexperience in an extremely tough schedule to post a 10-22 overall record with a 4-16 LSC record. Tabbert and the Aggies had two players honored by the conference offices at the end of the season. Julisa Ocasio received second team all-LSC, while Kat Evans received honorable mention. Ocasio surpassed multiple dig milestones after missing the first part of the season. Tabbert, in his first season took a team picked 11th in the conference preseason polls to a their first Lone Star Conference Tournament berth in three years as the sixth seed in. Tabbert led CU to a 15-15 overall record and 9-11 Lone Star mark. This was a stark improvement over the team’s 9-18 overall record and 4-10 league mark the year before his arrival. Tabbert came to Cameron after spending the past four years at the University of Nebraska at Kearney, where he held the position of Assistant Head Coach under Rick Squiers. During his four years at UNK, the Lopers had an overall record of 129-17 and a conference record of 71-4 including four regular season conference championships, two conference tournament championships, four NCAA tournament appearances, and final national rankings of No. 19, No. 6, No. 12 and No. 5. The Perry, Kansas native also coached 17 all-conference and 12 all-academic conference players, 10 all-region players, and seven all-Americans. Tabbert is also no stranger to the head coach position. Prior to heading to Doug Tabbert Kearney, Tabbert led the volleyball program at NAIA South Dakota School of Mines Head Coach - Third Season in Rapid City, S.D., for four seasons.
