For Jefferson Market Patrons

Subject: Jefferson Market Library Reopening on July 28

The lower level and first floor of The Public Library’s Jefferson Market branch will reopen to the public on July 28. The branch temporarily closed this Spring to prepare for a $10 million renovation.

Although areas of the building will be open to the public, the branch is scheduled to receive continued improvements planned for its renovation, which will limit access to the building. Currently, the first floor children’s area and lower level space for adults will be available to offer books, computers, and programming. Please check the Jefferson Market Library page for the latest schedule of activities.

Library hours have been altered to accommodate the construction and may be revised or extended throughout the project:

Monday thru Thursday: 1 PM to 8 PM

Friday: 1 PM to 6 PM

Saturday: 10 AM to 5 PM

Sunday: 1 PM to 5 PM

The Jefferson Market improvement project includes the reconfiguration of the Library’s entrance; the addition of an accessible ramp at the rear of the building; the installation of a new, more effective elevator serving all floors of the Library; reconstructed ADA restrooms; increased public space; and improved IT wiring.

The project is expected to be completed in spring 2021.

Please check the Jefferson Market Library page for updates.

The project was funded by Mayor Bill de Blasio, Council Speaker Corey Johnson and Borough President Gale Brewer. The significant investment will ensure that Jefferson Market Library can best serve New Yorkers now and in the future and is part of an important effort to improve the branches.
