FCPA Championship Points

For corrections [email protected] (or 352-337-1039) To qualify for an Annual Award, paddlers must complete at least 5 championship points races in a single class. Short course points: 1/2 of full course points. At the end of the year, award points are based on individual paddler’s 9 best races. The 3 paddlers with the most points in each class will receive recognition. Only current FCPA members (whose dues are paid up on the day of the race) qualify for championship points. Points are not awarded retroactively. Points are awarded according to your FCPA class even if race organizers divisions are different.

(PLEASE DON’T WAIT UNTIL THE END OF THE YEAR TO ASK FOR A CORRECTION)

It was a lovely day for a race on the beautiful Rainbow River! Good turnout, included 14 boats from the Pointe Claire Kayak Club in Quebec, Canada. I had many e-mails after they got home saying how much they enjoyed our race and our paddlers and our river. They hope to be back next year and attend the lunch. Most were leaving right after the race which resulted in them missing it. Thanks to Fran Siegfried, Kathy Edwards, Debbie Prior and others who helped with the registration, starting & timing. Much appreciated. See ya’ll next year?

WILD HOG OBSTACLE RACE

No formal results at press time, but several FCPA members participated in this wild and wooly race!John Edwards , on his own , 1st overall Sat. April 25, 2009 (again!) with a time of 1:47. Brint Adams (K1), only 2 or 3 min. later. Eddie Francavilla and Shari Francavilla in K1’s tearing up the course. Butch Garner on his own approx. 2:22. George Garner and partner Heather, Glennis Williams and Deborah Gedeon 1st in Women’s class (6 boats) had a time of 2:25 (Neither Heather nor Deborah had seen the river nor what was entailed! What they lacked in experience, they made up in enthusiasm and energy!) I think Nathan Stewart was there, though I missed seeing him. I believe there were 57 boats overall. I was glad to see a formal statement this year... no Sharkbite organizer, Rob Merlinbrink, shows some moves to “land crossovers” this year! Hope to have some photos, official Mike and Mike (Moran&Holland) times/numbers of boats in classes next issue. Several of us adjourned to Crackers in Crystal River for the best fried oysters and spinach salad you could ask for, which were consumed w/ beer on the waterfront deck while we compared bumps & FcpaMay2009 bruises & past stories!
