The Colorado Rockies 11-1 win is the largest margin of victory for the Rockies vs. the Cardinals since they won 15-4 on May 28, 2011 at Coors Field … finished this three-game series 1-2 vs. St. Louis and the homestand 4-2 vs. the Cardinals and Padres (3-0) … the Rockies recorded their seventh grand slam of the season, which is the third-most for a single season in franchise history (most: 8, 2x, 2007 and 2012) … their seven grand slams this season are tied for most in the Major Leagues (also: Washington).
German Marquez made his first Major League start … pitched five innings, allowing one run on four hits with one walk and three strikeouts … recorded his first Major League win and became the second-youngest player (21 years, 212 days) in Rockies history to record their first Major League win (Jamey Wright, 21 years, 206 days on July 17, 1996 vs. San Fransisco).
Nolan Arenado recorded his 39th home run with his first grand slam of the season in the second inning … it was his fourth career grand slam (last: Sept. 26, 2015 vs. Los Angeles-NL) … has one grand slam in each of his first four seasons in the Major Leagues … his 39 home runs lead the National League (fifth in MLB) and his 128 RBI lead the Major Leagues … is batting .305 (73-for-239) with nine doubles, four triples, 16 home runs and 58 RBI since the All-Star break.
Charlie Blackmon has now recorded a hit in 10 consecutive games, which is his fifth hitting streak of 10 or more games this season … is the third Rockie in franchise history to record five hitting streaks of 10 or more games in a single season (last: Larry Walker, 2002).
DJ LeMahieu extended his career-high on-base streak to 37 games, the longest on-base streak for the Rockies this season and the sixth-longest on-base streak in franchise history … it is the fourth-longest single-season on-base streak in club history.
Jordan Patterson recorded his first Major League hit, a single to center field … he became the ninth Rockies player this season to record their first Major League hit, which is tied for the franchise record for the most players to record their first Major League hit in a season.
Cardinals Notes
The St. Louis Cardinals had their four-game winning streak snapped and finish the season 4-2 against Colorado … are on an 11-day, 10-game road trip to San Fransisco (2-2), Colorado (2-1) and Chicago-NL (three games) … each of the Cardinals starting pitchers recorded at least one hit over their starts this series … Martinez went 1-for-1 … Wainwright went 2-for-2 with four RBI and Weaver went 1-for-1.
Luke Weaver (41 TP, 28 S) made his first career start at Coors Field … pitched a season-low two innings, allowing six runs on seven hits with one walk and one strikeout … allowed his first career grand slam to Nolan Arenado in the second inning … has given up a season-high six runs in two consecutive starts … recorded a hit in his fourth start of the season (last: Sept. 6 at Pittsburgh).
