We have six plenary sessions devored ro rhe ropic, four from a biblical perspective, one from a rheological perspective, and one from rhe viewpoint of rhe conremporary world, as well as more rhan 60 papers on the various aspects of the topic. Our presidential address by David M. Howard, Jr. will encourage us abom having joy in our Christian lives :md in rhe work of our Chrisrian scholarship.

Our Sociery continues irs healthy growth, both in numbers and in qualiry of papers. One sign of this is that

we have experienced :1 \'ery encouraging growrh of srudy groups in recem years, each focused on a specific subdiscipline and contributing ro in-deprh exploration of themes and areas of srudy in ways nor possible previously; twenty-one are meeting rhis year. In all, more than 300 ETS papers-in study groups and open sessions-are scheduled. Combined wirh rhe offerings of our affiliated socieries-rhe Evangclic;1l Philosophical Society, Ne"r East Archaeological Society, and Advenrist Theologic"l Society-the over" II tor"l is more than 350. Similar w last year, rhe open papers Jre grouped by theme or discipline, so rhat parricipants will present wirh others of mutual interest. I would like ro extend my appreci:uion to Barry Danylak, my assiswnr, for his hard work in managing all the program derails, and also to Jason Pranger and B;1rbara Moser ar Zondcrvan for their fine efforr in designing the program.

Our horel is ideal for our meetings: large enough to accommodate our needs easily, yet small enough ro en:tble ( easy getting around to sessions. There are good restaurants in rhc hord itself,

srand~alone esrablishmems nearby, as well, catering to every budgcr. Arlanra is a wonderful ciry; be sure to check our the information on restaurants and other places of interest. I especially thank Mr. David Bennerr, Program Manager, for his logistical supporr for our meeting. If you have opporruniry, please thank him ::md rhe emirc horel staff for their services ro us.
