8 Winston Heights - Mountview News April 2012 Great WHMCA Winter Festival! By Lenore Eaton Over 120 people attended the WHMCA Winter Fes- tival to have fun both on and off the ice on February 19, 2012. There was a well-attended game of shinny on the rink, free skating on the oval, and kids’ snow games (snowball relay, sled race, snow golf and tug-of-war) in the adjacent field, as well as food and drink in the Sport- splex. People enjoyed warming themselves at the firepit and watching the activities from the picnic tables. Stacy Nephin and James McTavish ensured the ice was superb and prepared the area for the event. James also kept everyone fed by cooking burgers and hotdogs on the barbecue. Fourteen fabulous volunteers helped execute this family event. Many thanks to Brenda Babi- uk, Darlene Robb, Barry Broda, Maggie Cha, Petra Clemens, Anne Scott, Ben McKenzie, Marianne Wiltse, Terry Calderon, Stacy Nephin, Doug Jones, Michele Mallinson, and Lenore Eaton. The event was well sup- ported by community businesses through donations of food, supplies and prizes. Many thanks to the following businesses for their support: Cappuccino King and Peter Izzo, First Calgary Financial, 7 – 11 on Edmonton Trail & 20th Ave. NE and Fred Moore.
