November 22, 1978

The Honorable George Agnost City Attorney 206 City Hall San Francisco, 94102

Dear Mr. Agnos t: This is to recite the facts of the circumstances surrounding the resignation of Supervisor Dan White as they are known to me. On Friday, November 10, at about 4:30 p.m. I was in my office in Room 235, City Hall. Various persons in the office were heard to be stating that Supervisor White had just resigned and had held a press conference to that effect. Upon hearing this information I proceeded to the office of Supervisor White, but the office was not occupied. I then proceeded to the office of his Administrative Assistant in Room 250 where I asked Denise Apcar if it was true that Supervisor White had resigned. She indicated that it was and handed me a copy of the resigna tion letter which bore Mr. White's signature. I immediately took the copy to my office, affixed the date time stamp and retained it in my file for the Board meeting of Monday, November 13. At the Board of Supervisors meeting of Monday, November 13 at the commencement of the meeting I indicated to the President that I had a communication to be read to the M2mbcrs,ncting t~~t it was a copy of a letter from Supervisor White addressed to Mayor George Moscone and stating that Supervisor White had resigned effective November 10, 1978. I indicated to the Members after reading the letter that a motion to file the document would be appropriate. The motion was made by Supervisor Quentin L. Kopp and seconded by Supervisor Ella Hill Hutch and was adopted with out objections. A copy of Supervisor White's letter of November 10 is attached.

The Honorable George R. MOscone, Mayor City and County of San Francisco Room 200, City Hall San Francisco, California 94102 Dear Mayor Moscone, I have been proud to represent the people of San Francisco as their elected Supervisor from District Eight for the past ten months, but due to personal responsibilities which I feel must take precedent over my legislative duties, I am resigning my position effective today. I am sure that the next representative to the Board of Supervisors will receive as much support from the people of San Francisco as I have.

.Sincerely, )\t'l- ~ITE
