With so few returners on the roster she simply said “they all need to perform well.” Mazeitis is calling for “all hands on deck” when the 2010 season starts because with only five players from the 2009 roster back in the fold it is clear that there will be a role available for everyone to fill. Louisiana will be one of the youngest teams in the Sun Belt Conference as nine newcomers CAROLINE DUFRENE were brought in to fill out the roster. Lindsay Brown and Caroline Dufrene are the lone three- KILLS year players. Player S K K/Set With the youth movement, the Cajuns are expected to conduct a lot of player development Caroline Dufrene 92 153 1.66 and team development training as the squad mixes the “old” with the “new”. The new group of Mandi Gavin 102 152 1.49 players have added size and athleticism – two features that the Cajuns have lacked in the past. Lesley Mirarchi 86 127 1.48 The Cajuns defense will once again he anchored by the efforts of libero Lindsay Brown. She’s topped 400 digs and ranked in the Sun Belt’s Top 3 in digs each of the past two seasons. Key Losses Brown has crafted 62 career double figure dig matches in her illustrious career and enters her Player S K K/Set senior season within striking distance of the top mark in career digs in the rally scoring era. Amie Goodwin 114 275 2.41 The most noticeable change in the offense this season will be at setter. Kendra Hall wrapped Ariel Krolikowski 116 245 2.11 up her four-year career in 2009 leaving the door open for Mandi Gavin. Gavin will be taking over the as starting setter and at 6-foot-2 is a force at the net both in blocking and attacking the second ball. She is a quick learner and a strategic player and those two attributes should benefit the Cajuns once Sun Belt play starts. Newcomers Tonice White (middle blocker) and Lavinia Tataran (outside hitter) are expected to step in right away and make an impact. Mazeitis likes what she’s seen from Taylor Meade on defense and expects her to push for a spot in the back row. One advantage to having a young team is they’re not caught up in remembering the recent MANDI GAVIN struggles of the program. Mazeitis will challenge the returners to forget the past and along with the newcomers embrace an expectation of being successful. With that idea in mind the 2010 ASSISTS version of the Ragin’ Cajuns might snap the program’s Sun Belt Tournament drought.
